Great Idea...
To go one further, it would be great for very complex files to have a "Query Select" where one could select objects by a series of properties (name, type, material, layer, etc).

Heh... that's a good question, and one that I thought of as I was building the mock-up. One way to do it would be to have the function use an algorithm that uses the minimum number of transforms to achieve the snap. Once the vertex is co-linear, then the User can use View To -- snaps to interactivel...

Yeah, another way to do it would be to make them two-step actions: 1) Activate the snap/trim, User is prompted to select the "active" item. User confirms by pressing Enter or clicking a button. 2) User is prompted to select the item(s) to snap to, and confirms by pressing enter or clicking a button....

Here's a brief page I put together on this topic:

Shift-Backspace clears the current textbox! I mean that's just genius, I don't know why MS hasn't gobbled that up yet. And yet industry-wide standards like Home & End, Shift-highlighting, and Click-drag highlighting of text remain un-implemented. These behaviors span all major OSs & interfac...

Thorsten, I've tried to interpret the final description on your page into a mock-up, to see if I understand the jist of it. I've taken a bit of license with widgets, so don't look for an implementation-ready idea here, but more an illustration (hopefully!) of the direction we seem to be settling on:...

Another thought that might add to this discussion is the following excerpt from a white-paper I wrote some time back for another interface proposal: http://karimnassar.com/design/artemis/artemis_functions.html http://karimnassar.com/design/artemis/artemis_modeler.html#stage http://karimnassar.com/de...

Thorowil, Reasonable modifications. I like your indicators fine. I would make one change though: The Render Layer toggle & indicator should indicate a NON-rendered layer, rather than a rendered layer. My reasoning is that Generally, most layers will be set to be rendered, so having only non-rendered...

Simple request for next update: grid display toggle
I know about shift-f7 & set gridlines=0, but it would be very nice if there was a single keystroke to toggle on/off the grid display in a given viewport. Sometimes, when I'm working on a model, the gridlines get in the way of seeing a particular detail. I often wish there was a quick way to toggle t...

How about "Make Coplanar"?
A lot of times, with vertex editing, I run into a problem where I have four verts I need to make a face, but one of them is slightly off and I can't get a flat face from it. Now, if the face is orthogonally aligned, it's easy to fix, but if, say those four verts make up one of the faces of a sphereo...

Basic feature requests:
1) As I build more and more complex scenes, I'm starting to rely more and more on the layers for organizing objects. For example, if I have a really complex particle system, I'll put it on one layer and turn it off for general editing so I don't bog my machine down. It would be nice if we could labe...
