The point is, that we want to start work on the _design_ of 3.0 - coders that are working on 2.XX shouldn't even be involved for at least are year. So why don't those interested in doing so go ahead and just do it? Put together a very well thought out design proposal, and present it to the community.

This seems kind of silly. What's the big deal about 3.0? We seem to get real excited about "major releases". 2.34 is a major release as far as I'm concerned. Most of the releases have been fairly significant recently feature-wise. So you want a roadmap to 3.0, your on the road baby! Your living it. ...

Ok. Nvidia is recommended by most it seems. But what card would be IDEAL for Blender?

My main uses are Blender & Photoshop. I also need dual monitor support.

Would a GeForce FX be good, or would it be worth it to find a deal on Ebay for a Quadro4?

Thanks!

So it's all custom functions to create windows and buttons? Hmm. Well I will check it out, but from first glances it looks a little complex from a noob's standpoint. I was hoping for something I could pick up a book on. Oh well.

Thanks!

GUI Toolkit used for Blender?

I am just starting to learn C as I would like to be able to play around with the Blender code myself.

I don't have any books on creating a GUI yet though, and am curious what toolkit or library (if that is the right name for it) Blender uses to allow compilation for multiple platforms?

Thanks!

It's a lot more difficult to push the open source "do it yourself" angle, especially when other apps like Maya, Houdini are so easily extended with scripting and plugins that you don't really need access to the source code. Broken - So I guess my question is, as I have been asking over on Elysiun: ...

Can OSS compete in "the industry"? Absolutely. Just look at the success that CinePaint (formerly Film Gimp) has achieved. Here is some info from their webpage: Studio Users CinePaint is known to be in use at these studios. * Rhythm & Hues: Harry Potter, Cats & Dogs, Dr. Dolittle 2, Little Nicky, Gri...

How many developers are there?

Just curious how many coders are working on Blender?

Are any full-time, or is this all being done "after-hours"?

Hope it's ok to ask.

Feature Request: Object Attribute Box

I was messing around with the demo version of XSI a little. When you create a new object it pops up a box of attributes. It seems sort of handy to me. For instance if you create a mesh cone, you can adjust attributes such as the object's name, base radius, height, number of subdiv's and start and en...

My two cents: Cent 1: I'm not sure, but do many other projects / products (OSS or otherwise) have a public site and a developer site? Perhaps that is part of the confusion. Personally it would make more sense to utilize one domain for the product - with easily navigable sections for either area. Cen...

Here is a quick concept of some of the suggestions mentioned for the home page. I stole the blender3D thing from a post by Landis over on Elysiun - I think it would look cool with some subtle flash effects in there too. Sorry it took so long to get around to doing. http://www.nuance9.com/blender/ble...

Thanks for the reply. I thought cygwin was more like a platform to run linux apps on windows. I didn't realize it was a development tool.

I will check out lcc.

Is the eclipse.org C IDE any good?

Recommendation for Windows OSS C IDE

I am interested in learning C, in part due to Blender, and have ordered a couple books.

Just curious if you all have any recommendations for a good Open Source C IDE?

Thanks!

Actually phpBB is not very difficult at all to customize. It has been alittle while since I set one up, but as I recall you just need to find the files that fill in the area you wish to modify and change it as you desire. No big deal.
