Caronte and Macouno thank you for your replies, I was starting to feel alone here. :) I can't tell if this idea is technically ok or if it's the easiest method to bake a displacement map, but if it works: - there is no need to start coding this thing from scratch, it is enough to modify what is alre...

Proposal: displacement map baking (almost) for free

Sorry for my bad english. Please take a look at the attached image, hope it make my thoughts understandable. http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6730/aopaneleg1.th.jpg Now that Blender can Render-Bake Meshes, one simple correction in the Ambient Occlusion algorithm would make possible to Rende...

Hi dharveymi, unluckly I'm not a Mac owner so I don't know where exactly the file is, but have you tried "find" on your entire harddisk? Or maybe is in a hidden folder of the blender folder (I know that on Unix systems filenames that begin with a dot (like ".blender") are usually hidden). Sorry I ca...

Hi, first thing: wonderful buddah!!! Did you do that translucent effect only with shadowmapped lights? Please, share your technique! :) second: I think shadowmap are not so popular no more. That's a pity, for they are extremely useful at times. I noticed some strange things too with shadowma...

@stiv: even if it was a psychology experiment it was funny :D @panzer: Don't worry, you have 2 choices: 1: download and install Blender 2.40 in another folder (not the one you have installed Blender 2.41). Use Blender 2.40 to import the 3ds file, save a blend and continue working in Blender 2.41 2: ...

Carlitowebb you are in the correct forum. Stiv was just telling you (with humor ;)) that without more information is impossible to help you.

Read my post above, if you get the same error you can try importing the 3ds in Blender 2.40, it worked for me.

The same thing happened to me today, I tried to open a 3ds file with Blender 2.41 under WinXP, getting the error "Python Script Error- Check Console" That's the output: Importing "e:\MABE\PVC\pulpito\pulpito sat xl.3DS" Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 646, in my_callback Fil...

Hi, welcome to the world of Blender. Sorry but Blender doesn't have parametric objects. You have to add a new cylinder with a higher polycount. Another solution is to enable subSurf for the cylinder, but it will require some more work to make it look right. Anyhow, this is a developer forum, you wil...

Just select the first mesh in ObjectMode with a RightMouseButton click.
Anyway, this kind of question are better posted in a user forum such www.elysiun.com , this is a developer forum.

Something similar is already in Blender 2.40alpha2, it is called "Mesh Ripping".
