oh i almost forgot - the http://www.gpgpu.org/ is THE place to start. there is a large group of gpu devellopers there, not to mention the reviews and references of gpu programming tutorials, books, resources and whatnot.

i say go for it. here's some food for thought. http://graphics.stanford.edu/papers/photongfx/ my only point of concern is that CG is nvidia only and probably windows only to, but it's a great starting point anyways. it should set things in motion. if you would like some contribution of the green kin...

cheating for speed!

this post is more or less a feature suggestion list for ways to improve speed by cheating in yafray. (for animations) *store radiosity and GI data for static scenes. - walkthroughs and flyarounds will litterally fly - blender has this but it isn't nearly as beautiful. * separate area lights from pho...

well hello there michel! you find the time to work on blender at a hobbyist level and that is great! your work is greatly apreciated but i don't believe that every coder that could be of assistance has the time to do so... after all time = money. while you don't feel comfortable contributing to blen...

Blender can be both free and commercial! just look at how quickly it evolved during the C-key days. there where new features practically every week and every month the new feautures where released for free (or so i remember). now what i'm saying isn't that we have to go back to the way NaN dit it in...

even though blender is free (freedom) software, that doesen't mean that we can have difficult features made by mercinaries. as someone said there is room for that in the gpl as long as the coders work under the gpl license it doesn't matter to the end users how the feature was made... i for one beli...

there are two sides to each story, while the idea being a tad capitalist it is also a form of democracy and in a sense even more free than say the microsoft way with saying "though shallt buy this" and "though shallt do things the way we want you to" we can have a two way communication between devel...

now you're just being greedy  well true the coders don't want to work for free full time, but do have to make them billionaires? every person doesen't have 100$ to spare, i could spare 30$ a week easy and i'm out of a job! does it matter to the coders if their bounty that caches out at complet...

actually i think we could have both a bounty system and a contest with prizes. just look at the amazing creativity as seen in the plugin buisness of the commercial 3d software segment. this even opens up the possibility of commercial plugins being develloped for blender. i don't know about you but i...

this seems like far better idea than mine about a render card for blender and will in fact attract more brainpower into blenders development! post a poll about this to see if all of the community agrees. i'm down for 50$ for an winxp 64bit opteron binary. also speaking about money, how would we have...

oh hollywood uses them, but they use the bigger version - the render drive. believe it or not, pixar has the most renderdrives in use on the planet in their renderfarm, but they are mainly used for close ups. the only bummer about them is that they are limited by the fairly small amount of onboard m...

 WOW! i was told that GI and radiosity simulations could not be done in gpu, but evidently this is not true. and the speed of it all... on a downside though, they claim that it can only be done in direct x but believe it to be possible with open gl in the near future. how could i contribute t...

it will be  if you had read my entire post and clickety clicked the little link to get you to http://www.art-render.com and read about the PURE card then you would have been convinced... the PURE card can do raytracing about 400% faster than a top of the line P4. just reading the part about th...

leon, what you are talking about is a general purpouse cluster. the little box you are talking about is an ethernet switch and can be picked up at around 20$ (dependent on size), and what is needed for the computers to communicate are *tada* network cards. you can use these computers together as a b...

the development cost for it would be close to 0, the manufacturing cost for say 10.000 units would be in the range of 8-25$ a piece (otherwise it isn't possible, remember what i said about working the idea out before development?) and say that we initially sell these at somewhere around 240$ initial...
