I think that there is nothing like "the best interface". Everyone has his own favourite interface, but that doesn't make it the best. How can you messure what is the best ??? That is just one more of these endless discussions like mac os is better than windows or my car looks better than yours... I ...

We tried 3DS and also VRML, but we always lost the texture coordinates during the transfer.
Maybe we did something wrong ...

textured models Blender <-> 3DSmax

I am new to Blender, so my question might seem stupid.
But did anyone ever exported a textured object (without loosing texture coordinates) from Blender to 3DSmax or the other way around?
And if yes, how did You do it ?

I think a short movie project should not be started for the reason to make a tool better.
You need the idea first. If You have that, then You can check out what tool You want to use to bring your idea to life.
