It’s OK, I figured it out.

I had accidentally moved the “missing” objects onto a different layer.

I think this might be a UI bug: the move-to-layer popup changes the layer even when you hit ESC instead of ENTER.

Say Blender coords are (X, Y, Z), OpenGL are (X', Y', Z'). Then the coordinate orientations are:

Blender: X to right, Y away from you, Z up.

OpenGL: X' to right, Y' up, Z' towards you.

Therefore:

X' = X
Y' = Z
Z' = -Y

“Append” puts a copy of the selected data into the current document, “link” puts a link (“proxy”) back to the original document. You’ll notice you can’t edit the proxy.

Glad you figured it out so easily.

You should see the trouble I had with OpenCollada. :)

Yes, you can pass all that kind of thing in CMake variables. I have a wrapper script I use to build Blender, here is the line in it that does the CMake setup (notice all the explicit OPENCOLORIO_xxx and OPENIMAGEIO_xxx definitions): cmake \ -D WITH_PLAYER=ON \ -D WITH_PYTHON_INSTALL=OFF -D PYTHON_VE...

I built OpenColorIO from source. It wasn’t hard, as I recall.

Moving To Git: Pros And Cons

I see in the latest Developer Meeting Notes http://www.blendernation.com/2013/03/04/developer-meeting-notes-march-3-2013/ that some are considering moving the Blender source code repo from Subversion to Git. I think this is great news! Though I realize it won' be easy. I’ve been maintaining unoffici...

What’s not clear from the error message is where exactly inside Blender is the error being triggered.

Are you able to build Blender with debugging symbols, run it under GDB, and get a traceback when the error is triggered?

“intern” versus “extern” source directories?

I’m trying to understand how some of the directories in the Blender source tree are laid out. As I understand it, code specific to the Blender applications themselves is in the “source” directory; that specific to the Blender executable proper in “creator”, that specific to the Player in “blenderpla...

You could download the source from the SVN server via SSL.

Looks like the big-endian support in that source file is incomplete. If I were to take a guess, the missing code is to do endian switching of all the fields in that PC2Head structure after the “header” array.

Maybe that version of Boost is too new for Blender. I am using 1.49, which seems to make no use of ICU, and Blender builds fine.

Batch Import/Export

I thought it would be useful to be able to perform bulk operations in Blender’s batch mode. For example, I download a bunch of Collada-format models from the Google/Trimble 3D Warehouse, and I want to loop over them and convert them all to .blend files from the command line, without having to tediou...

Time To Start Moving To Stdbool

Time to call an end to all the ad-hoc ways of defining boolean true/false values, and move to the C99-compliant stdbool way of doing things.

Here’s a patch I’ve submitted to kick off the process:
