Oh, I thiink the blender source is quite OO, but being done in a non-oo based language hides it.

And I think blender was grown over the last few years of it's life. I think the main task right now it to prune back the overgrowth to let the structure shine through.

Ok, now we know that GHOST does not implement gui elements and that possibility is in discussion... right? Right I hope that blender is modular enough so that I can reuse that part of the program.. I can sadly say ... well ... not really. But I would welcome any effort to clean it up. There have be...

No your right. GHOST does not have any GUI elements. We have talked about this in the GHOST mailing list but have not come to an agreement. If I remember correctly the last outcome was that we would all go back and think about it more. The BMF_font system was rolled into GHOST & the I18N looks like ...

Alienbrain doesn't even come close to doing what miracle asked for. I was asked to eval it & well it didn't quite live up to expectations.

Oh and that's my personal opinion not my employers

AFAIK No such beast. We've been looking for/building something like this but it a very big problem. Not to mention that it's form depends on the structure of the company that deploys it.

Nice list of requirements though.

And that doesn't sound like an absurdly large amount of work to do something that should be second nature? In Maya, for example, it's as simple a selecting the object, faces, verts, edges you want to view & hitting FKEY. Moving the insertion cursor from a menu so that you can then focus the camera o...

Get real

And how many of you have XBox or Gamecube dev kits? The PS/2 is easy to come by because Sony decided to play ball with the hobby markets. Trust me your not going to find many people with devkits willing to help. Me ... I have enough to do without supporting a slow game engine that will never be used...

Maybe we could all use some perspective taken from a much better known GPL project, the Linux kernel. A recent editorial from 'Linux & Main' covers the topic very clearly: The Linux kernel as a periodical publication => http://www.linuxandmain.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=278 Blender i...

Ouch!

Yeah that would be cool. I assume your talking about http://www.alsos.com/Products/Devices/SpaceBall.html ? But at ~$600 USD each it may be hard to find a developer with one that is willing to try. I would like to but ... $600 ouch. Of course new input methods would be helpful. Maybe a central input...

Interesting ideas. But just saying, 'I'd like this tool from this package' is not as helpfull as it seems. Many people don't have several different packages and even if they did they may not have the one your talking about. I'm not trying to attack you :) I just want to bring out a general problem i...

Okay, so then how do I (or for that fact anyone else interested) go about getting cvs access? Even if it's not to the whole tree, say it's only the doc module for now. What progress is being made towards a central development area? Maillist? Write cvs access? Ton made a whole news article about this...

Load documentation into a new cvs module?

Should this be done to allow mass editing of the documents? My thinking is that HTML/SGML are just sources & keeping them under control would be a good thing.

Thoughts?

atsyle formatting options file

I hope that we can all agree that having a standard formatting style makes things more readable. Even if we don't all work in this style ;) , reformatting before commiting work will stop some misunderstanding and allow faster acclimation of all programmers. To help with that I've looked over the doc...

I would be willing to helpl. I've been doing some local code documenting & was thinking about writing some coding tutorials for GameDev magazine (once the source solidifies). I'm really interested in seeing Blender turn into a platform, instead of a program. For the reoganization part of the task. W...
