Hi David, I Saw the Dragon concept in the blog and it is very nicely painted, however I think it is lacking on its anatomy. For example your dragon appears to be a 4 legged create with "normal" fingers in the front legs + some unrealistic bone extrusions growing from some undefined part up the feet....

you could start with www.anim8or.com it´s the easiest free 3d software out there, but don´t spend to much time with it, as soon as you feel confident with it come back to Blender for real power :D

can be done in python but its a lot of work, one of last year's soc projects was an interactive tutorial mode but it's dead :-(

separate your avi into frames and the use Gimp Animation Package to load them into layers, then in animation menu there is the optimization for gifs, it makes areas similar to the bottom frame transparent, then convert to indexed with less than 255 colors, now you can save as animated gif :D

yes it seems raytracing is of in the .blend that is used or previews, you can change it if you ccompile with a modified .blend. I don't know what are Ton's plans about this,

Check the first lines of the oficial splash file, you have to manually edit the new file to fix the path, datatoc leaves long paths that are not needed
