I've been away from Blender since the release of 2.36. Man, am I glad to be back! The widgets are a blessing, although I think the act of having to cycle from transformation modes using a key, defeats the whole purpose of having a visual widget.

Otherwise, it's looking strong!

how does XSI compare to lightwave? You are trying to compare a software package worth $500, to one worth $1500. Disparity anyone? Lightwave > XSI Foundation Lightwave == XSI Essentials Lightwave < XSI Advanced IMHO, Lightwave is most comparable to the Essentials edition of XSI. Lightwave has...

Yafray integration request

Since Blender can still export a scene to Yafray's XML for render, can we allow a feature to export without rendering? Or otherwise, to render independently of Blender, so that the scene can be worked on while the render is proceeding?

Is this about the new Yafray CVS, or the new Blender CVS?

Well, it's oddly named (I thought MPEG were movie formats). But if MPEG-4 becomes widespread, I'm sure someone will come up with a script to output to it.

My answer is: Blender is capable to do all the stuff you see in most CG movies right out of the box. If you make Hollywood work only with Blender, I'm very confident that you won't see any difference Hollywood work only with Blender? Impossible at this stage. Even with high-end commercial packages,...

Isn't the Linux update 2.35b?

If true, we should just make it 2.35c.

Or follow Microsoft's example: 2.35 service pack 2. :P

Thanks for the build, Gabio. :D

If there is going to be an updated release, will it be an increment of 2.35 or a fresh 2.36?

Thanks for the reply, Eeshlo. :) It's a shame that the interest in Yafray is declining. I think that the lack of Blender-specific documentation is one of the causes, which is why I started this thread. Do not despair. There is a niche group among Blender users who appreciate even slight improvements...

I'm using a 9600XT with Catalyst 4.9 driver. It works perfectly fine.

This sounds like an issue with your particular card, and not ATI cards in general.

Blender/Yafray supported features update?

Following on from Eeshlo's excellent thread "Blender/Yafray supported features summary", what is the current state of Blender/Yafray integration?

What features are supported now, that weren't supported in the original thread?

The sub-panel tab colours are very confusing.

Image

In tha screenshot, I have "Material" and "Shaders" sub-panels selected. But the tabs make it look like "Ramps" and "Mirror Transp" has been selected instead.

Very trivial, but irksome.

Enabling "Ray Transp" should do the trick. Go to the materials panel, then "Mirror Transp" tab. You will find "Ray Transp" half-way down the right-side of that sub-panel. Then use the "Fresnel" slider to adjust the level of transparency, and the "IOR" slider to control the index of refraction.
