Save Blender scenes in text format eg. ASCII or XML
The binary .blend format is great especially as you can pack all your data including textures into one file. But it would be nice to be able to save it in a text based artist readable format. I doubt it's a bug. You can hardly blame an old version of Blender for not understanding a scene that has been saved in a later version.

In Blender 2.4a with a poly mesh selected, press f9 to go to edit mode and press the 'slower draw' button in mesh tab.
