It would be lovely if Ubuntu users could install the latest version of Blender and Apricot game from the package manager.

Re: Smooth groups

(sorry for the necrobump) Blender NEEDS better smooth grouping . If we want Blender to be considered a professional game development tool it sadly will not happen unless it incorporates 3DS Max style smooth groups , without that it's pretty much dead in the water (there are ways around it but the c...

Save Blender scenes in text format eg. ASCII or XML

The binary .blend format is great especially as you can pack all your data including textures into one file. But it would be nice to be able to save it in a text based artist readable format. Maya artists find this useful to tweak scenes and even fix broken ones. I worked at a games company that was...

No. What he means is smooth groups: http://www.3dtutorials.sk/index.php?id=104 target weld would also be nice or just redoing the snap tool so it's possible to use proportional edit with it. Exactly, it's very basic for low poly modeling A similar tool would be very useful! Please no smoothing grou...

I doubt it's a bug. You can hardly blame an old version of Blender for not understanding a scene that has been saved in a later version.

Maybe some kind souls at www.elysiun.com can help you out

good luck

I'd also be very grateful for an option to restrict the ortho views.

But that's because I use Maya for my day job. Maybe I should just adapt!

as blendmt has mentioned you were pressing the 'slower draw' button when you were in edit mode.

You should press it when the poly mesh is in object mode

hope this helps

In Blender 2.4a with a poly mesh selected, press f9 to go to edit mode and press the 'slower draw' button in mesh tab. Then press f7 for object mode and in the draw tab pressed 'shaded' and then press 'wire'. For exporting simple meshes try the Wavefront Oject .obj format. It should be relatively pa...
