That the textures path is also searched for textures whenever you load a model. The ChromaDepth seems to be related to vertex coloring painting, and not colors of the vertex during edit mode. Closer vertex having different tones than farter vertex
I saw this feature proposed before, and I remember seeing it in tuhopuu. What ever happened to it? I couldn't find it in tuhoipuu now, and I was just doing a model where that feature would have saved me many minutes of work.

Why no PMs?
I wanted to PM Hos to tell him to edit his post about tuhopuu red hat compiling because the cvs path was changed or something since he wrote it.. it has the phrase 'co blender' but i think now it should be 'co tuhopuu2', but it sayd PM as disabled in this forum? Why?
