To sort out the Alt-A crash, the way at the moment seems to be this (worked for me) Try: $ export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dma $ blender If this sorts out your Alt-A crash, add the export line to the bottom of /etc/profile or similar to set this every time you boot. Also you might want to check your RAM etc....

Just FYI, I currently have no problems running blender-2.36 on Fedora Core 3, just so you know it might not be a distribution problem. Are you running an dist-upgraded version from Fedora Core 1 or 2? Mine is a 'fresh' install with a lot of development packages thrown in from the discs. What precise...

For those working on SSS implementations/interested in SSS

Found this on CGtalk.com: Sub surface scattering tutorial + source code http://www.rendermanacademy.com/docs/SSS_depthmaps.htm (I can't attribute the link as I have accidentally closed the tab with the forum thread in. Suffice to say it's a relatively new post, and you can look it up on CGTalk.com I...

Does anyone know if this includes the new Normal Map code? I've tried it out with a demo normal blend I found, and it might just be the blend, but the rendered result was not what I expected.... I've heard that RC2 is necessary for 'correct' Normal mapping, but there's no RC2 linux build yet, so I w...

I think the technical term for this is a 'slashdotting'. A link gets posted to www.Slashdot.com and the world and his brother try to check the link causing a massive bandwidth spike.... gaz99, you genius!

That "NoFlip" option sorts it out nicely. I was a bit thrown off because the problem doesn't arise under fluxbox, or WindowMaker, misleading me that the xorg options wouldn't fix it.

Thanks!

New Python 2.4 + blender. Will scripts still work?

Does anyone know if it is safe to update my linux box from python 2.3 to 2.4, and still retain the functionality of the python scripts in blender? The 'What's new' pages are here: http://www.python.org/dev/doc/devel/whatsnew/ Reason for upgrade? I am just about to start getting into python, and I fe...

There is a linux viewer for chm files and its called 'xchm' (everything in linux has awe-inspiring names, don't it ;) ) I have used it before, and it does what it says it should do, and quite nicely as well. I feel that .chm files are still devil spawn, but at least this would be a step up from a ne...

Best import/export techniques (Blender<->3DSMax,Maya,e

I feel it might be useful to others to post the best or most satifactory ways of transferring blender made objects to the other 3D apps, like Wings3D, 3DSMax, Maya, XSI etc. Ideally the most complete export/import would carry most of the data, such as vertex colours, armatures, IPO's and of course, ...

ox, about the Alt-A crashing thing. Try the newest official build, 2.35a. I reported this bug on the tracker and Ton told me that 2.35a will come out with some tweaks. Source code download, blender3d: two lines still say 2.34

Hope that this is the right forum/site/group of people to contact about this Minor thing on http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Source_Code.12.0.html . I was just going to look at the download options (looking for the CVS details which I found) and although most of the text and the links point to 2.35, but...

I am having 'roll over' problems with tabbed menus. I'll explain: If I have 2-3 menus combined in one box, (ie tabbed) when the mouse rolls over the exposed menu buttons, sometimes they are replaced with buttons from one of the other menus underneath. (The buttons show through, and change colour as ...

Feature Request: Springs (for cloth-type simulation)

I was just wondering if anyone is working on code to add springs to the blender (or even a cloth simulation in blender) IMO Springs : 1) connect two objects together, but are not rendered. 2) define an optimum distance and/or angle that the two objects should be apart. 3) If the distance and/or angl...
