to make myself clear:

3d-window:
- dotkey changes rotating/scaling pivot to 3d-cursor
- ckey centers to 3d-cursor

outliner
- dotkey centers to selected data block
- ckey .... nothing....

outliner: hotkey to center active data in view

Why is it the dot-key and not the c-key like in the 3d-view? c-key in outliner has no functions yet. dot-key in 3d-view activates 3d-cursor. thats not intuitive...

Usually you get a set of prefined models, poses, materials etc from the software vendor. ...

i read the printed blender 2.3 manual and the online version, but found no hint how to organize materials. i guess there is none. the workaround seems to load a model with the desired materials attached, apply the materials to the new scene and then delete the imported (and not needed) model. that's...
