Its probably just a bug that nothing happens when you turn auto-smooth and and off. I mean, why would they remove that functionality to the point where the button no longer does anything? Its probably a bug. And I hope its fixed soon. Artists that don't want auto smoothing would (obviously) turn aut...

There are a lot of gamedevs using blender, I'm sure. They might not use the game engine though. http://www.hyperbol.com All our modelling, animating, and uv mapping is done entirely in blender. We have a toolset which exports, splits materials, gets them mapped to shaders, etc. Once this toolset is ...

Unfortunately, vertices are shared between faces, and no vertex-based or face-based solution would be optimal. From the artist's viewpoint, it is a specific edge that he wants to be solid - not a specific face, or vertex. Example of why you can't use a vertex or face based solution: * Create a plane...

Feature Tweak: The automatic uvmapper in 2.4

Is there a good reference for what the various parmeters to this thing mean? Also, is there a way to cause it to leave a few pixels worth of space around each object? As an experienced UV mapper, and the person who does the mapping for our artists in a game project, they've repeatedly berated me if ...

Forwarded Artist Request: Automatic Texture Reload OPTION

We're working on a game project here, (I do the UVMapping, but not the actual texture painting)... and for the artists, it involves a lot of alt tabbing into Gimp/Whatever, altering a texture, saving it, alt tabbing back to blender, then choosing image->reload. They have been begging for automatic t...

I was relying on this feature to preview our game models. Now it becomes much harder. Its not very intuitive now. However, to be honest, 'auto smooth' is a kludge anyway. Our artists are begging for finer control, to be able to specify which edges are smooth and which edges are sharp, instead of whi...

Elysiun appears to be hacked. Someone is using their domain to send malicious emails around. Perhaps the admins have realised it, and pulled the site for now... Not only is it down, but I'm getting emails from the elysiun-website mailing list that are obvious attempts to get people to download and r...

Hooray! Just in time. By sheer coincidence, I was searching for a setFilename() on the Image class, too. We're using it for gamedev, and packing textures into the file wouldn't suit our needs (since the textures have to be available outside for the game, it would lead to 10 meg blender files alongsi...

Three orthographic views do not actually provide enough 3d info to create a scene, only for humans to kinda understand it. There are many ambiguities. You can make objects in a 2d orthographic, or even 3-view (top left front) set, that can resolve into a number of 3d objects depending on how you 'se...

I just meant that you do have access to a lot of the program, through Python, and the number of areas you can access is increasing whenever a new build is released, perhaps eventually all areas will be covered. I think the Python advantage is that there are countless external libraries that can be u...

Alright, well, the GetRestMatrix() function for bones, is not quite working as it states, but it seems to be more of a bpython issue than a blender core issue. I can compile blender locally now, so I'll have a look into it meself... Basically, if asked for the bonespace matrix of an bone, its not ta...

Scripts for blender are written in python, the programming language. They are just text files. Scripts can have a GUI (buttons, etc), and do things when you click on the buttons. For example, construct objects, modify meshes, move things around, change materials, basically, edit the data, animations...

new vertex alignment script

This script, when activated on an object, aligns all of the objects vertices with a grid of a granularity you specify, by rounding all of their positions to the nearest grid point. (right click download:) http://members.cox.net/vexgames/vertgrid/vertgrid.py place it in your scripts folder. It will a...

That sounds like a good idea - although the goal of the script I wrote was to do it without any UI - so that it could perhaps be bound to a key. I like having tools which I can access without a UI. I do have your tool here, and its very useful too. Another alignment utility I'd like to see is the ab...
