That is, indeed, incredibly good news LetterRip :)

Is there somewhere I can look up the technical details on the change? My reason for asking is I would like to ascertain whether said changes would help with a configurable GUI interface as well.

joeri: Please correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing. For example, rather than debating whether the suggested change I wrote about is bad because of X, or not feasible because of Y - you are calling my motivations into question. That is, it seems to me, you are...

joeri: A forum without a debate? This is not at all what I was proposing. I'm simply sick of the fact that whenever someone suggests ANY change to the interface - the thread turns into a "should we / shouldn't we" change the interface at all . We already know that one is unlikely to change the mind...

Interface Changes (without the debate)

The question I would like to pose is: If you were going to change the interface to Blender, what would you do? Given how easily this question derails threads into "Blender's interface must / must not change" back and forth arguments/debates - I would like to suggest that we ignore that issue for the...

NGONs are very important for modelling (and I agree - the number of hits this thread seems to get implies how many people would like to have them implemented). I currently model completely in Wings due to its incredibly smooth workflow for just that task. It's support for NGONs makes re-topologizing...

joeri: You make several interesting points, most of which I agree with, some of which I don't, and some I simply don't understand. Firstly - the comment about Word making good writers makes no sense. It is neither Word's or Blender's aim to make "better writers" or "better artists". But the more in...

While I agree with you Bogdan - the reason the discussion has become useless is that there is no way those of us "pro-interface-change" can convince those "anti-interface-change" (beyond making Blender customisable). This goes both ways too - there is no way someone is going to convince me the curre...

No offence, kAinStein, but I'm going with Marianne on this one. You either ignored or twisted over half my points to fit your world view. While there are no "official" or ISO standards for modelling / animation applications - there are a few de facto standards that EVERY other application in the gen...

Several replies here, let me sort through them one by one :) joeri I often take up the part of Devil's Advocate for the same reason you claim. The thing is that to EFFECTIVELY take up that part of a discussion, you still have to make "reasonable" arguments. That is, a good Devil's Advocate (accordin...

Well, into the fray I go :) Actually it has been proven that it isn't in most of the parts I disagree. What has been proven is that some people prefer Blender the way it is. There doesn't seem to be any "proof" per se either way. There is some "empirical evidence" that Blender is not more intuitive ...

OK, I was going to leave this thread alone as the subject has come up several times before and each time the result was the same (the developers & some forum regulars would deny there was a problem, usually also pointing at me as a "trouble maker"). Well, there was a blog post recently by a develope...

Could you give me more examples as to what you are after in this cage deformer, as there are two ways of doing it. First there is what Maya calls the "wrap deformer". What this does is use the "cage" mesh as a kind of proxy. Each point on the "deformed" mesh is weighted to the faces of the "deformer...

That's not a bad idea, Martin. Speeds up the workflow for those that want it - but leaves the "safe" functionality for those that would complain. I would be selecting "always" all the time, but that's just me :)

No - I actually think your "start-up" interface is nicer for the new user. As experienced users can already set-up Blender to default t their desired views, this is a sensibel change IMHO.
