OK. The last suggestion I have is to "bake" the simulation to a disk cache. You will see check boxes for these options in the simulation properties panel.

Add new hotkey

I want to add a hotkey to toggle between rendered and solid display (3D view) when using Cycles. I find that I am constantly switching between these two modes. I know how to add hotkeys, but I can't find the correct place to add it, nor what the values would have to be. The Python reference is: Spac...

If you're rendering with cycles, they won't show up. Cycles doesn't currently support particle systems. Try rendering in Blender Render.

I would create a folder to hold the image sequence, because there will be a file created for each frame. Be sure to specify the new folder in the 'output' file name. Then. render the simulation in blender but select a still image output format (.png, .jpg etc.) and then click on 'animation' instead ...

Dynamic paint issue

Dynamic paint animation works fine in preview, but rendering the animation in cycles gives only gray shades of the paint object and the canvas object and none of the color that is in the preview (3D) window. Baking seems to be going too fast so I don't think it's baking properly. Rendering in Blende...

Sailboat simulation

I've modeled a simple boat and sail. I enabled cloth sim for the sail, and added a wind force. When I play the animation, the sail blows away the way it should if it were a loose piece of cloth. So then I parented the sail to the boat. When I 'grab' <G> or 'rotate' <R> the sail, the boat goes along ...

"Export" and "import" generally refer to using files in multiple programs. Do you mean you are trying to create a movie file of a Blender animation? If so, are you rendering it as an animation, setting the output to a movie format, such as H264? Doing that will create a file that can be viewed on an...

OK if I understand you correctly, then you should bake the simulation first. Then select a still image format (.jpg, .png etc.) and then render animation. This will render each frame as a still image, but I suggest a separate folder to hold all the images!)

Update> I installed the latest driver for my graphics card, and now when I select "experimental" instead of "supported", the user preferences allows me to choose my GPU. However, as it's still experimental, it renders only in shades of gray (no color) and it took a lot longer than my CPU. So maybe i...

Yes I have looked there, but there is only CPU and no other option. No experimental or GPU. In the render properties panel there is an option for CPU or experimental and I have checked that, but it doesn't change the system preferences options. It seems that my graphics card may not be supported yet.

*** New selection function request ***

We can use the control key with the numpad + or - to select additional or fewer vertex/edge loops, however the increment is always 1. Would it be possible to have the option of following the + or - with a number (n) so that every nth loop is selected? Eg. a UV sphere with 32 segments. I would select...

Are you sure you have both the preview and render samples set to 1000? It may be that you have the preview set to a lower number ("integrator" settings). That might explain it.

No shadows in Cycles rendering?

It seems very hard (if not impossible) to control shadows in cycles rendering. They almost always do not appear. I have gotten weak shadows when the lighting is very, very bright but then this throws all the other details way off. I don't see any options for shadows in the materials panels, so maybe...
