Its interesting that its using RIB but isn't renderman compliant. Does this mean that it doesn't do all the required renderman primitives, or is this just about not using REYES (which isn't actually neccessary). It appears that it only has *very* partial support for RIB files. Also, there is more t...

Interesting concept! But... the radiosity system doesn't work with vertices or interpolate it. Oh! Of course. I feel silly, now. (I knew that already, but for some reason was thinking in terms of vertices.) Just replace all the words "vertex" or "vertices" with "face" and "faces". :-) It's 'integra...

It seems that in my attempt to be short and to-the-point, I ended up confusing everyone. Sorry about that. To explain the 1st idea a bit better: You know how subsurfs currently have two subdivision levels? The level for the 3d window (interactive) and the one for the final render. What I propose is ...

A couple of ideas:

1) Use the interactive sub-surf level for radiosity calculations (which then would be interpolated over the additional vertices during actual rendering).

2) Radiosity could calculate only indirect lighting (use regular lamps and such for first bounce).

I agree with you Dani! But I'm not so sure that my opinion counts, seeing as it is difficult not to be biased about such things. However, I will state my thoughts anyway. People can take them or leave them as they please. :-) First of all, I like that in 2.28 the specular and diffuse shaders have be...

And yeah, i've got windows and i've got 3dmax - but i just don't like it. Microsoft SUCKS !! Despite what most large corperate businesses (touting IP law) would have us believe, software and its creators are not one and the same. Windows is not Microsoft, and Microsoft is not Windows. Software is a...

Hi Ton!

I am now feeling the first real pangs of regret for not being there (not that I actually had a choice, mind you). Wish I could be there. If Bassam doesn't read this, tell him hi for me! :-)

And good luck with the BOF meetings! I look forward to hearing about them! :-)

I agree, it is a huge leap forward for the aethetics of Blender. However, there is a bug in it... perhaps I should file a bug report. Except I'm too damn lazy. Anyway, the bug is that if you have two 3d windows open, and are editing a model with draw edges/faces turned on, then when you select a ver...

If you don't think there is any worth-while content in a post, then why the heck are you replying to it? If you think that Thorax is full of BS, then ignore his posts. Otherwise, please make sure that your replies to his posts actually follow the topic.

Topic: The future policy for dealing with user feedback?

So, the bottom line is:: Is the future of Blender going to be a 3D-suite mostly based on (a) features that coders consider cool, or will it be (b) the result of feedback from users/artists? I'm with (b). I think that user feedback is not only useful, it is necessary. Just because someone can't impl...

At this point in time, features doesn't matter, modules doesn't matter, right now architecture matters. This means that it is very coder oriented. I have written a few apps and user input have been very useful. but not when it comes to evaluating something like an API (like vll) Uh... the feature s...

The entire idea with verse is that we don't need to have this discussion. Each component can use different technology, language and so on. OpenGL 2 or not? I don't care! You don't have to discuss the merits of Object oriented programming with me. Just write your stuff object orientated. In my opini...

(Bare in mind that all of this is "IMHO".) I think that verse would be a great way for things like Blender:Renderer and Blender:Modeler/Animator to communicate with each other. However, I think that it would be dangerous to split the Blender:Modeler/Animator program into smaller sub-programs that in...
