And, oh.... by the way... I guess you're just dying to start implementing something anisotropic soon then?! 8)

Now if you could keep both models, and let the user select (per material) which one to use - that would be saaawweeeet!

Let's hope some compiler jock can help out making a windows binary =)

A real shading language (with a renderer backing it up properly of course) would make me an incredibly happy guy!

That's great news! I've always thought that the simple phong-only model was a bit of a shortcoming in the current renderer.

It'll probably be just 6 months or so until I can get my hands on a win binary with your stuff in it, then?  :D

A MANIFOLD is a manifold mesh with no boundary. All edges have exactly two incident triangles. All vertices have exactly one cycle of incident triangles. All triangles in the mesh are consistently oriented.

If one would apply a newbie perspective here... Usually when trying out new softs it pretty good to have a couple of "one click things" lying around. At least that's what I usually do when testing something I never used before... You just want something quick, without necessarily knowing how to do i...

Color pickers are nice things to have. It should have a swatch too where one can place project-specific color chips. As for the rest, the current color setting gadget in Wings is a pretty good example of something very useful. Both RGB sliders and HSV ones at the same time. That could be a good star...

Face selection mode

Has there been any talk about improving the face select mode? If not, it would perhaps be a good idea to look into it. The current implementation is pretty lousy on several counts: Terribly slow, mainly deals with UV-mapping rather than modeling (sure you can tab in and out of editmode to get corres...

I'd hope that 'ignoring' and 'culling' go hand in hand. A vertex that is not visible would naturally not be selectable either. But then again, I've been modeling in Wings almost exclusively since... eh... dunno... a long time now, and it already works like that =)

From what little I know about OpenGL programming, it should be pretty easy to make the lines thicker. Perhaps even really easy.

And hidden line removal - pleeeeeeze!

I'm only 99% sure about this, but I seem to recall tha Topix only does spherical deformation - what would happen to cloth pulled over a basketball basically. That could mean that, in your case with a knight and stuff, it's not worth the trouble.

jmerrit: I've had a look at the current Aqsis gallery, including the competition stuff, and I still haven't seen anything remotely impressive or good looking. You are right about the general guidelines, though - it would be very bad if the RIB output was tweaked to a particular flavor. On the other ...
