What you are describing is what Verse is supposed to be used for. A Verse server holds the data and whatever application "understands" the Verse protocol can work with the data. I was under the impression that Verse was a networking 'protocol'. I'm just talking about good old dynamically linked lib...

I guess I should say something here too... I don't know exactly what I've been thinking about this. Somehow I got the idea that the UI theories realized in your Loq Airou experiments were a significant part of NGB, and that a lot of people were seriously planning to implement something like that. I ...

'Blender:PreRender' would essentially be the same thing as what 'Blender:RenderMan' would have been, except that it would be generalized - - - Is that about right? Exactamundo, dear Watson! The generalization is the key, of course. It would mean that those wanting to code support for a particular e...

hmm... I played with it a bit now... I dunno... For starters, it doesn't want to load .TGA's... Asks for BMP's instead. OK... Can it do anything? I'm not sure yet. Maybe.

Ok, here is my more comprehensive post. - - -Comments and insults are welcome. ;-) A great and indeed comprehensive post :D Comments---> Just one really, and it's comprehensive::.. About 'Blender:Renderer' and 'Blender:RenderMan' Now how about this - Add an intermediate module instead, Blender:PreR...

Schmoly cow! strubi, that stuff rocks. And not only the unwrapper - that face- and edgeselection is pretty surprising to find too! Just gave the unwrapping a 5 min quicktest on an old apartmentmodel - rock solid, man. :D Got to check out that lightfield stuff too.... I'm writing your name into my la...

the blender color mixing functions. While on that topic: Would it be terribly hard to implement some sort of eyedropper tool? Something which a) can be used to click at anything on screen to grab the color of that pixel, and b) which stores the currently 'eyedropped' color so that one could easily ...

Just think about it...
It makes a lot of sense, of course. Not to mention how relatively easy it would be to hook on an external scripting host to pass instructions for anything and everything straight into the core and kernel. MEL-scripting, here it comes!

xype wrote:Uhm, well, maybe you should put more trust in people like Ton and the Blender core (coders) group to make decisions that are good for Blender's future and not simply because it sounds cool.
Fair enough. I'll just shut up and get back to modeling, then! :D

Heh, that would be a lot of fun!
Maybe I've simply overestimated the future impact of Eskil's design theories. My apologies. He hasn't commented on these posts himself yet, though.

obviously upset a part of the community by labeling it blender, as it seems without common agreement. While i agree that such might be no good, i think it's not enough for serious punishment. I'm definitely not aiming to punish anyone :D However, I still can't shake the hijack-feeling, so I guess I...

I just think that E's work is still respectable, no matter what he wants to do with it. I can fully agree on that. I would only wish that there was some sort of collaboration from the start - a pre-design exchange of ideas - not like "here's an almost finished implementation of something completely...

If the next major relase of Blender is something like Loq Airou with Verse - then what on earth was the point of shelling out 100 K euro's for the "old" Blender source? And why should it be considered to have anything to do with Blender? I hereby proclaim that this cool email-client with 3D-buttons ...

Oh.My.God.right.back.at.ya... I know perfectly well that Verse is a networking protocol. And there's nothing wrong with net-enabling Blender, and I don't have a problem with that per se. There has been stuff going on _before_ that you know. I personally only have a problem with the fact that the sug...
