And what do I find?

A little button marked "no specular" in the lamp editbuttons!
And it works, too!

Well slap me silly with a can of tuna and call me Susan!

You can prevent Blender from crashing itself and probably thereby X by rendering in parts - check those renderbuttons named X-parts and Y-parts: change to an appropriately high value to make Blender render your image in a bunch of segments rather than the whole thing at once. That will decrease the ...

Have any good links other algo's for it? Here's a start at least, a 28 page PDF on "Antialiased voxelization of Geometric objects". I quickly browsed through it, and there seems to be pretty detailed explainations of the catmul-rom cubic spline filter. And a huge list of references of course =) Get...

Re: Suggestion to all of the community

Umm... that is probably the least significant problem when building an online community.

A more obvious solution would be to help out and provide better content for Elysiun.

O'yea. That works fine most of the time. Gets rid of 99% of any nasty jaggies, but it still doesn't help the boxfilter-look of course... I'd like to get the occasional Catmul-Rom crispness, or some smooth photographic Gaussian.

Most of these are in fact already supported, though you need to use pythonscripts to make it happen. However, native (non-scripted) support for reading and writing OBJ and 3DS would help a lot. These are probably the most widely used and supported formats and should be enough. For instance: having a...

I think that 80% of Blender users just don't spend the time learning to push the renderer around. Most likely so! I would not trade the "immediateness" you get using the internal renderer for any external solution. The current scanliner is fast, flexible and predictable. Those are VERY valuable pro...

It's important to realize that the rendering engine can only do so much to improve the final result... How the scene is built, how the lights are rigged and how the textures look are far more important than what renderer is responsible for producing the output. This is very easy to test - just downl...

What we could do, is at least bringing out more intermediate versions, for testing only, so that we can get feedback on the status. Exactamundo! I mean, just dump some binaries from the BF-tree somewhere on a bi-weekly basis. Should not be some sort of 'event' that gets an article on the frontpage,...

I saw some others reporting similar problems over at Elysiun - maybe the foundation rushed this release a bit too much, I don't know... While waiting for a solution, try the latest Tuhopuu compilation - just check this forum for a thread named "i'm doing regular builds..." (just a few lines below th...

you do know that you have to be in Edit mode with vertice selected, right? He he, funny :) As I said, it works in 2.03. I even tried using the same file (one plane with a lot of verts, one nice texture) - Open in 2.03, enter editmode, select all verts, hit Noise a couple of times - result: Image "e...

I rolled my own Tuhopuu - no operational noise there either. It's really weird. It is not very important tho. As I said, it works in 2.03, so when I need it - I'll just run it there and append the object. No biggie.

But it surely is strange...

Maybe I should have been more clear about which particular noise I was referring to: The mesh-edit Noise button. Apply an image/texture to a plane, subdivide the living daylights out of it, enter editmode, select all verts, press NOISE repeatedly until the texture "embosses" it's image into the mesh...
