It seems you think a program is only its UI. Man, there is a world beyond your screen. Mac osx, btw, is based on BSD, a unix like kernel (and a very good one). So you can say they took 1000 existing ideas and added their UI. Nt, 2000 and XP are based on the mach kernel scheme, so again the same his...

Most big companies have shitloads of patents they could sue OpenSource software projects for but they don't do it, because it's not really competition. Yes, until the day they realize it's competition, and then what? Then the Open Source movement would need to start making innovative software inste...

An idea can appear in several places at the same time if it's obvious. Where is the line? And even if you could draw the line, why should a good original idea be restricted to those who pay. It does not make sense, it's knowledge. If your job and the jobs of most of the people of the company you wo...

I don't. and if software patents can make people THINK of NEW inventions, instead of copying the past. I'm all for it. I'm all for it, too. The impression I have is that most people are really uninformed about the issue (quoting XOR as a patented methong, puh-lease! plain sensationalism imo) and ar...

Would a DirectX version of Blender be possible? I don't see this a bad thing for us windows Blender users. And I don't see it making any sense, at least not until the game engine gets an overhaul. Right now OpenGL can be developed by many users on many platforms, a DirectX port could last a few ver...

I wonder if this is possible, maybe say an investor of NVidia or ATI is rather large and is competing with Microsoft in another area, they could turn around and do something drastic.. I wonder who is going to be the sacrifical lamb here.. Noone will be a secrificial lamb and most certainly not any ...

Did you disable mipmaps and enable vertex arrays in the system & OpenGL panel, too?

I don't think DirectX really has much of an advantage over OpenGL - at least with OpenGL each vendor can release nice extensions for it's special needs, dunno how possible that would be with DirectX. Also Blender 3 will probably take about one year to start coming to life anyway and in the meantime ...

The Alias logo is a combination of Blender's shapie and LightWave's 3D-iness, imho. I think Alias will have a hard time competing against Cinema et al, after all the features they spend most of the time on are nice R&D project, but noone doing a logo animation really needs PaintFX to paint flowers. ...

This is nothing perosnal, but the ability to "skin" applications can be nice, but _most_ people doing skins have _no taste whatsoever_. 99.9% of the skins for the various Linux flavors and apps look like shit. Apple's Aqua is only tuned a bit more, but can still be improved, but letting everyone do ...
