Ergo: non-coders like myself have no say in the matter of NGB. I get it. Wrong again. Just don't expect anyone to write code to your ideas. Give input, beta test, give feedback and then coders will likely start implementing your ideas as well. It's only since Blender developers are doing it in thei...

On Verse: First and foremost it's not "internet" based, but network based. So for people working in a company doing 3D animations the speed of a 100MBit network is quite enough, and considering most new "pro" hardware comes with GigaBit network cards the problem of bandwidth is even smaller. Second,...

Which part of my previous post exactly is it, that you don't understand?

dreamerv3, I don't know whether you did read any of the replies (I guess you didn't), but I think that you are wrong with both of your main points. 1) If NGB uses Verse, it will most likely implement a Verse Server, which means NGB itself wont need to send that data it already has to itself via UPD ...

So, I would warn against making the components too small. I think that a general rule of thumb would be: if a piece of a program depends on another piece in order to run (or be useful), they should be combined into one program. Because if there are dependancies, it would be rather pointless (not to...

Maybe they are... You could perhaps clear something up for me. Let's do the Quake comparison: The client/server model of Q Arena is probably something like a) a game engine (server), and b) gamers connecting to that (clients). The gamers could be real persons on their own computers, or they could b...

I was under the impression that Verse was a networking 'protocol'. I'm just talking about good old dynamically linked libraries or equivalent sitting nicely in my own box. Most other applications I have used are divided into a bunch of subprograms (in my case they are DLL's), but that has absolutel...

The part I really don't like is the whole "network" deal. I ( and a great many other people too I would bet) want my data to sit on MY machine. Opinions? The "whole network deal" is just an option. You don't have to take each thing that is described as an option (alternative UIs, networked 3D, etc)...

It wouldn't even have to be limited to conversions for rendering. Since PreRender would read native blenderdata, it could facilitate all sorts of export. It could be considered as a general blender scene decoder. http://www.blender.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=8652#8652 W...

Edit: long post again, I hope I got everything halfway right and do not look like a fool  Hmm, seems like a diagram or two would be in order to visualise what Verse really is (it's not a GUI) and in what context it stands to NGB. Basically you have 3D Data and an Application (NGB, Blender, May...

Re: Reply to NGB/VERSE "controversy"

Edit: sorry for the uber-long post. Well I'm makign an assumption here that OpenGL2.0 was based around the design discisions of hardware manufacturers of NVidia and SGI and such.. Hardware is different from software in that its usually not the arrangement of existing technology, it involves a lot of...

Lots of concepts sound exciting but you have to keep in mind that at the end someone will be coding NGB and if it's not you, he/she will probably use other concepts and only code stuff he/she thinks is worth spending time on. Once NGB is well into its development process the only thing to change it ...

Upside: One could render out animations at a blazingly high speed. Downside: Just about everything else except for the speed-issue. Uhm, well, maybe you should put more trust in people like Ton and the Blender core (coders) group to make decisions that are good for Blender's future and not simply b...

Just who is passing Eskil's previous work (Loq etc.) as the NGB? I beg you pardon, who wants a UI rewrite? If anything, the UI itself will be completely independant from Verse and from all the work going on with Ghost and Blender's current UI I don't see any evidence that it will be replaced just-li...

Oh. My. God. First, NGB is not trying to hijack anything. Is it _that_ hard to understand that VERSE IS A PROTOCOL. Noone is disrespecting the work done on Blender until now. Noone is saying that Verse will become Blender (Duh! You can't change a 3D app with a protocol that simply stores data!). And...
