If you're wanting to subdivide a face by drawing from one vertex to another in the same face, the knife tool is not the best way to do it. Better way is to select the two vertices, and press "Jkey". The value of the knife tool is when you want to subdivide a face in a way no existing vertices are in...

I don't know how helpful these will be, because I am uncertain exactly why you want to name the edge. I can think of three ways to name and edge, and whether they will be useful will depend upon why you want to name the edge. Depending upon the situation, some of these ways may be more useful than o...

Do you know what does the flip / recalculate normals function does? Each vertex and face in a Blender mesh has an attribute (or set of attributes) called a "normal", which is a line perpendicular to the face, or which is perpendicular to an implied face in which the vertex is included. You can see ...

Viewport lighting only lights objects using lights in the same layer. Not quite accurate. Viewport lighting lights objects using lights in visible layers. So if all the lights are in layer 1, but there are objects in layers 1, 2, and 3, with layers 1 and 3 visible, the lamps will (consistent with t...

Added selection functionality

I'd like more control over un-hiding vertices. To illustrate, suppose I'm working on an object with several vertex groups, and I want concentrate on the vertices in a single group, so I select the other vertex groups, and hide them using the Hkey hide operator. But when I've completed the editing, I...

Added search functionaltiy

It is very handy to be able to use the search function to find a particular operation or operator; it would be equally handy to be able to search on installed hotkeys to be able to see the default assignment for the hotkey.

Hidden scale and rotate locks in object mode.

While working on a rather complicated mesh, I ran into a situation where I could not rotate or scale objects in object mode. I could move them, and I could scale and rotate them in edit mode. But in object mode, I would select the object, select scale or rotate, and see the appropriate cursor on scr...

I don't know for certain that this is the problem, but it has all of the hallmarks of "flipped normals". Go into edit mode, set the option to select faces, and click on one of the faces that seems to have "disappeared". Then, on the tool shelf (if not visible, press "T" while in edit mode), find "no...

I don't know that there is, though I can certainly think of cases where it would be useful. Assuming that there isn't already, if I had the skill set needed to do it, (and I don't yet), what I'd do is to write a script that would extrude from selected points, scaling them to a common center, and mer...

With respect to your "weird hole", it seems to me that the first question to beasked is "are you sure you have a face where the 'weird hole' is?" You would not be the first blenderhead to fail to have a face assigned to a particular set of vertices; I manage to do it about once per mesh.

Actually, there is information that you can use offline. The courses on Blender usage from Central Dauphin High School http://www.cdschools.org/Page/455 and from Tufts University [/img] http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html contain bits that can be downloaded and used off line. There are also other ~.p...

I don't like spending my own money, and I dislike spending other people's money even more. But it seems to me that the answer here is to bite the bullet, and increase your memory. The problems you're having with this project are almost certainly going to reappear in the the next one and probably ear...

When I've observed the problems you describe, I've found the problem most often to be that I was in object mode; extrude is an edit mode operation. There have been times when this, and similar events have defeated my attempts to understand them. Soimetimes I have been forced to start a new scene, ap...
