... <snippage> ... does this mean there might be some blender internal programming problem, or do you reckon there is some malware on my computer? In the first case it would be worth a report to the blender dev people (?!). Well, yes, it might possibly mean that there is some blender internal progr...

I don't see enough information to make a definitive judgement on this, but what you describe is the classic symptom of a memory leak. The way to diagnose this with certainty is to see exactly what processes are running at start up time, and how much memory they are using. Tthen start a new session, ...

Don't know for sure based upon the screenshots provided. First thing I'd try is to open a full outliner screen, and make sure the item is set to render.

I don't know what else to tell you, as I, too, am using the latest version--2.66, and the "projections" block is present in my installation, and I can't find a setting that makes it disappear.

Are you looking in the right section of the materials window? There are two sections, one "Image mapping", the other "mapping". "Projection" is in the Mapping panel, where it is the second rollout menu in the panel.

OK, it looks tome like what you need to do is UV-unwrap your sphere. I've not used the 2.4 interface in long enough that I can easily tell you how to accomplish it, but for a starting point you might consult the page <http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Manual/Textures/Mapping/UV/Unwrapping> t...

Best guess is that after deleting the light or camera (which must be done in object mode), you forgot to select an editable object. You can only enter edit mode if you have an object to edit.

It would probably be very helpful to know more details about what you did, in order to know what you did wrong. If you used UV unwrapping to apply the texture, for example, exactly what type of unwrapping did you do?

I assume you've considered that these may be inconsistencies in the direction of the normals, and have tried flipping the normals on the bits that don't show correctly in your other software platforms.

I thought about that when I was composing my reply, but then I considered that the principle is still the same: on more complex objects, unwrap so the side viewed least often is where as many of the dissonant seams are placed. And if for some reason you can't get rid of all of he seams on one of you...

One answer here is to uv-unwrap the mesh differently so all of the face parts are on three adjoining sections of the uv map.

Ardrew has created some really great tutorials. I like them a lot, and recommend them to people on a regular basis. I would not recommend them to the typical user on their second day. The cursor at 4:40 in the video is not the cursor you will see in Blender; in the 3D viewport that Andrew is scaling...

Sounds about like applying transform locks. Selecting your mesh (or meshes) and going to the object button in the properties panel, under "transform locks", if one applies the transform locks to "location", "scale", and "rotation" parameters, those tranforms will only apply to the "z" axis.
