I fully support that! Some background for those who don't know; http://www.khronos.org/collada/ Khronos is a very cool consortium supporting open standards for computer graphics (including OpenGL ES). They've adopted Collada as well. Blender already has pretty decent Collada 3d model im/export, whic...

I would like to emphasize that Blender isn't ready for 64 bits usage yet. Please only use 64 bits versions for testing purposes and at own risk. Files saved with 64 bits versions now have the risk that these will crash Blender later on, something we won't be able to fix. Whether or not the speedup i...

What-you-want-in-Blender demo session

A session we did two years ago too... and was pretty cool. There's no better way to inspire developers as showing how other software handles specific features. It should not be a full demo of his software works, but a demo of a specific feature you think should fit in Blender nicely. Take your lapto...

NOTE! We've published a RC2 now, in

http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.42/

This is still without ffmpg... we fear a RC3 is needed for that. :)

I am not very familiar with cluster based render farm setups (using shared memory stuff via IP?). What I do know is that there's a substantial amount of preprocessing for more complex frames, allocating a load of memory in advance with all rendering info, before a tile is being processed; that info ...

Hi Oso,

Arranging duplication in Boston will go fine. There's several people there (and who live there) to oversee it even.
Further I'll go over there 4 days before siggraph for last minute disaster work!

It is still uncertain if there's budget for it even... have to wait for several quotes.

Booth design

The construction and furniture for booths is typically insane expensive... so we really have to find ways to do it for minimal budget. What I hope we can get is a 'box truss' ceiling, with giant prints and black fabric sheets as walls to separate it. Here's the first sketches for our booth concept. ...

Demoloops

Something that always worked great on tradeshows was using Python to run a cycle of demo files. Load this zip: (3 MB) http://download.blender.org/demo/test/demoloop241.zip Best is to use latest release, Blender 2.41. Automatic running Python Scripts are by default disabled in releases, this for obvi...

Blender on Siggraph tradeshow

Thanks to the bundling of organization power and sponsoring we can present ourselves on a large "Open Source Pavillion" this year. The Blender Foundation, the GNOME Foundation (including GIMP) and the Uni-verse consortium have partnered together to organize a presentation of free and open source sof...

Another random idea;

One of my favorite (and very hidden) sites:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/dawang/blender/

Don't know if the author would even agree; but someone offering to translate most of this, is that an eligible grant? Just discussing possible issues though... :)

What's to stop me from taking these, rewording them a tad, maybe adding a bit and then claiming 500 euros for someone else's efforts? Yeah... good topic to think over. However, google is pretty good in finding our online docs. Try to paste random lines of our docs in the google search box. BTW: I n...
