Aye, but it's an importer not exporter we're after here :)

It does seem strange to have put effort into exports and not follow that up with imports, but I don't know how hard it is to actually write these things for Blender.

"$$$DUMMY" names on .3ds node imports

Having just upgraded my Blender install to the latest from SVN, I'm seeing "$$$DUMMY." prefixes on all my node names after importing .3ds files.

Has something changed in the last week or two that would explain this? I've searched the codebase but can't find any obvious references.

I was also surprised by this the other week. The page for the exporter is here:

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Exten ... X_Exporter

You can e-mail the author there.

I submitted a request on the tracker regarding this a while ago, but I can't find it now. Previously, the behaviour was that you'd get a confirmation dialogue. But it was in the weird Blender UI style, such that it disappeared when you moved the mouse away from it! This acted as if you'd cancelled, ...

Thanks Stiv. The Express edition does leave some things out; but 2008 Express is explicitly still used in the Windows build tutorials, so that evidently hasn't been a concern before. I can't think of anything offhand that should be required by Blender (x86 anyway) - I've not seen any use of OpenMP f...

Well, if anyone is interested, I found vs.py in SCons/Tool/MSCommon. That's where it tries to find VS on your machine. The 2010 section just hasn't been supplied. I think this version of SCons is out of date, perhaps a newer one supplies paths for 2010? Are there any plans to upgrade it? Regardless,...

Well, I found I could get past this by adding _WIN32_WINNT defines in some headers. But now it gets stuck at another file. In COLLADABUPrerequisites.h there's this code: #ifndef COLLADABU_HAVE_TR1_UNORDERED_MAP namespace __gnu_cxx { template <> struct hash<std::string> { size_t operator() (const std...

Building with VC++ 2010

I'm trying to build Blender for Windows using Visual C++ 2010 Express. I read somewhere that it's not supported, and all the tutorials seem to use 2008, but I want to give it go to get a handle on what exactly isn't supported. Using SCons, following all the common tutorial steps aside from 2010, eve...

D'oh, found my problem - I'd installed Python x64, since I'm using 64-bit Windows. But this also seems to determine which version of Blender is built by SCons, and I was intending to make the x86 version. Using Python x86 instead solved my problem. On closer inspection, that wiki page does mention m...

I have the same error, but building on Windows. I'm following the instructions at http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Doc/Building_Blender/Windows The error is: c:\blendersvn\blender\intern\audaspace\intern\AUD_PyInit.h(30) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'Python.h': No such fil...

Where's the lighting code?

Could someone point me at the lighting code in Blender? I mean, for actual rendering, not the 3D viewports. I found something but it kept mentioning "halos" so I thought it probably wasn't the right thing, and didn't do any specular calculations at all. So where's the code that computes lighting fal...

Custom properties export for Collada

I was surprised to see custom properties on objects aren't exported to Collada. Seems a natural fit for the <extra> elements. Does anyone have any views on how these should be best laid out? Where is it best to request such a feature?
