This is the goal of Verse, if I'm not mistaken . . . the ability to knit disparate apps together quickly. Perhaps a good step would be to write a Verse export plugin for Wings and a Verse import plugin for Blender?

Use existing programmable GPU cards

Using the existing reprogrammable graphics cards from Nvidia and ATI would get around the hardware cost problem. People are already using them to create global illumination rendering systems and publishing their results on how they did it. The bridging step for the Blender community would be to crea...

real time global illumination on GPU

Here's a link to a master's thesis detailing a real time global illumination algorithm on an ATI Radeon 9800.

http://www.gpgpu.org

It would be worth it to take a look and see if a basic framework could be built which others could then expand upon.

I think that this modularization is very similar to what verse is aimed toward . . kind of a universal graphics server into which connect a variety of apps for modeling, texturing, rendering, etc.

When will the new project go up? Should be fascinating.

Thanks,

Eliot

That's a smart way to do things. I look forward to seeing it develop!

I'm really impressed with the improvements that Blender is undergoing.

Thanks,

Yafray integration moving forward . . . is Crafter included?

Ton's news post indicated that a small group was working to integrate Yafray as a rendering plugin for Blender . . . great news! Is any work ongoing to integrate Crafter (node based shader/texturing system) into Blender to provide Yafray with textures & shaders? This would really make Blender/Yafray...

Cool! A question: After I downloaded it and double clicked connector_win32.exe, I received the following error: Application failed to start because SDL.dll was not found. There is a SDL.lib in the distribution; am I supposed to compile it? I'm not familiar with the new Verse, do I need to download i...

The new version of connector sounds very interesting. What sorts of things are you adding/changing?

Enough, Seduce, and NGL?

Hi Eskil, I've been interested in following the work that you've been doing. Do you plan to update NGL, Enough, and Seduce now that OpenGL 1.5 (used to be 2.0) is now out? It would seem to make a very compelling development environment. Do all of your apps (Quel Solaar, Nils Salentin, Loq Airou, and...

Actually, forget my earlier comment about borrowing XSI's interface. The interfaces you have look incredible. I mostly want to see what direction you would take the app (especially the interface!), and contribute what I can toward it. It seems like you have a cool suite of applications going...

A suggestion for the initial focus

If Verse is a way to manage and manipulate 3D graphics data, then it naturally fits into the part of the open source pipeline where it is needed most: scene management, animation, and .rib output. Wings3D is a very capable modeler, and can create UV mapped models ready for import. Pixie and Aqsis ar...

Hello Eskil, I think I understand what you are planning to do; please tell me if I am right. When I looked at the node based structure of Verse, it looked sort of like 'Super Network Enabled Maya'. It looks like you can code many separate objects and plug them together in new and unusual ways, so a ...
