Displacement seems to be coming out fine in the render, but it doesn't show up in the 3D view. After displacing an object, it appears in the 3D window, as no different than before i applied the displacement. Is it supposed to do this?

I have heard that the noise button is not true displacement mapping, yet it seems to distort a mesh, according to a grayscale image. What is the difference between it, and actual displacement mapping?

env, you should see if you can get a copy of the beast plugin that's in development. It seems like it would be awfully handy for what you are doing.

actually i was half serious and half yanking your chain. zarf, you have a tendancy read into what people say beyond the actual content, and carelessly toss about generalized condemnations in a quite pretentious manner.
