Turning off 'eye candy' usually refers to compositing window managers with transparency features. A lot of on-board or low-end video drivers don't do OpenGL transparency well. Usual reasons for crashes are out of memory errors and video driver problems. Running Blender from the command line should g...

Easiest path would be to find some data format Blender and your game engine agree on and simply import/export that.

Second would be to write a custom import/export script for your engine. The OBJ scripts are probably nice examples. Also lots of useful examples in the Text Editor templates.

Code: Select all

from Blender import Scene
That is an import from the old 2.49 version of Blender.

Your choice are either switch versions of Blender or switch to the new BPy API.

A more interesting question than the vpython code is: what sort of data structures do you end up with?

Is this something can can be easily imported or converted to a format Blender will import?

Sounds like some weird-ass Windows sleep mode, likely due to settings specific to your box.

And yeah, more details would be nice. CPU rendering or GPU, for example.

Blender 2.5x was a re-write of a large part of Blender's internals. Most people saw it as a change to the User Interface, but that was mainly a side effect of re-writing Blender's event handling. Some old features were not ported over from old Blender to new Blender. Stars could well be one, I have ...

The Code tag is your friend when it comes to scripts.

Also, the cool kids write stuff like

Code: Select all

[ob for ob in bpy.context.scene.objects if ob.type=="MESH"]

to get a list of MESH objects.

From the errors, it looks like you are missing the Python header files, although I would be expecting some explicit messages about that. The other issue is you need a debug version of the Python lib in order to build debug. (It has been a while, but IIRC, you under Windows, you need to compile with ...

The two most common reasons for crashes are running out of memory and bad video drivers.

Running Blender from the command line should give more information.

To me, this is one of the fundamental problems with commercial software. Unlike some of our more ideological fellows, I have no problem paying for value - as long as I can get *my* data in and out of the program. Proprietary data formats are Evil(tm).

What do you mean: "video subsystem capable of OpenGL"? Blender uses OpenGL for drawing anything on the screen - the user interface, rendered images, everything. OpenGL is a library that provides an application with a standard interface for putting graphics on the screen. The OpenGL library talks to...
