Totally everything, but only when other means of accessing often needed options are provided. Do you mean "but only when other means of accessing often needed options areN'T provided" ? So if the 3D window is maximized, the main menu would have to be squeezed into the toolbox somehow... No I mean w...

it is a lot easier to tell if a button is pressed by color when it gets smaller. I think it's very clear to see the states of the buttons even on the small image. Smaller than that won't be workable anyway. I did not change color, because I want to keep optimal contrast (text/ground) for readabilit...

In your starting menu the little space you've got to get your mouse pointer through is about 11 or 12 pixels long... that is about half the height of the "Add" and "Object" areas. There's need for a prototyp. I did some work on a flash version, but it's not ready for the public yet and I don't know...

You variations on my design would mean much longer ways. With the first example, you would have to cross the whole width of the word "Object" plus the width of the submenu to reach the 3rd level. It would also mean that mousepointer and menu would have to be moved away from the screen edge much soon...

BTW, with your mock-up, it is only for 8 items on the lowest level... would different contexts have different numbers of items at the lowest level? Would you say that a general has a low level? So please, the menu starts with the highest level! ;-) Yes, the menu will propably have 6 or even only 4 ...

Something I forgot in my last post: Your menu will be not as easily browsable as mine. Because you need special means of going back a level. That's not a concern after some training, but affects learning. If you use a menu per keyboard, the menu is only a map of the keys to type. It's most effective...

I don't think keyboard navigation inside the Toolbox is important enough to base the whole design on it. However, my design could be navigated with numpad keys and cursor keys for the submenus. If you use a menu per keyboard, the menu is only a map of the keys to type. It's most effective to have tr...

First of all, I'd like to say that you did a fantastic job prototyping the new toolbox layout. Thanks! Altough the eight compass directions style of menu is much quicker for 'blinded' i.e. no visible queue for the user, the speed for visible menu items in a radial forum just more or less goes up li...

Re: Submenus should be radial, too

First of all, I've just been looking through the funboard archives, and seen that you've already discussed a lot of this there. My apologies for not checking earlier. No, no, thank you for checking the archive! My design will increase speed of operation because you select first and second level wit...

Re: Submenus should be radial, too

The whole point of a radial menu is to increase speed of common operations by making them gestures that can be "spinal reflex" memorised. Mixing radial and vertical menus gets confusing, and defeats the point somewhat. Maybe it looks confusing as layed out on my page. I don't think it will be confu...

Toolbox Flash Simulation, R2

Hello! Edit: Flash simulation, release 2! Please test it and report about your experience with it. But don't judge it before having spent a little time playing with it. It's a new kind of menu, therefore you will need a little training to get used to it. If you realy don't like it I want to hear tha...

Great! I'm realy looking forward to the next release.

But I think you should'nt display that background-grid.
It's distracting and interferes with readability.

Thank you very much for your excellent MakeHuman!
