Unfortunately, some of these operatrors are not usable from the console, because they expect the current context window to be e.g. the 3D View, but when you invoke them from the console, the context window is always the console.

My system uptime is currently at 28 days. During that time I would have rebuilt Blender 2.5x one or two dozen times. What are these “minor problems” and “graphical glitches” that you have experienced? Because I can think of no such that might be fixed by a restart.

Here’s a comparison of the output of ldd on the two builds: the lines beginning “-” indicate libraries present in the CMake build but not in the Make one, and the lines beginning “+” indicate the opposite: ldo@theon:blender> diff -u <(ldd ../blender-build/bin/blender | perl -plne 's/\s+\(0x[0-9a-f]+...

Re: Second Life Sculpties and Blender 2.55

I did a Google, and it looks like Second Life will be supporting Collada import. That might be a better interchange format to use with Blender.

Easier to start with Python. Having used both Java and Python myself, I would say Python is by far the more flexible language.

There are still Makefiles in the source tree. I find I can get a usable executable just using Make.

Why all the system restarts? None of the steps requires it.

You could subcontract the job to someone with Python experience and Blender experience.

Make vs CMake

I just did two builds off the identical Blender source tree (SVN r33457), one using Make and the other CMake. And the build done with CMake is so slow it is unusable. Has anybody else seen this? I tried temporarily renaming my entire ~/.blender directory, just in case a prefs file here was causing t...

For the ultimate in transparency effects, turn on ray tracing. Of course, this will slow down your render.

If you do this, set the alpha to zero on the transparent material, to turn off the shaders completely.

2.5x Scripting Tutorial

I have added an introduction to scripting in Blender 2.5x, including step-by-step development of a complete working addon, to the “Noob to Pro” Wikibook. The section starts here:

The SDK doesn’t seem to be Free Software.

Remember that anything to be distributed with Blender must be compatible with the GPL.

In my 2.55.1 build from a couple of days ago, the Tool Shelf on the left of the 3D View has a section labelled “Normals” that appears in Edit mode, with buttons “Recalculate” and “Flip Direction”. Is that what you’re looking for?
