The version number went to 2.55 back on October 28. If you want to run the prerelease, you need to keep it up to date.

I found a way round the limitations: leave the ring open, but TreadTiler itself has a new option to close it for you. Simple!

You have to use the version of Python built into the version of Blender you’re using. Your export script must work with that version of Python. So for Blender 2.49, the script must be compatible with Python 2.6. Otherwise it needs to be fixed.

The .blend file format is absolutely open-ended. That’s how it achieves its forward and backward compatibility, right back to Blender 1.0. There is no standard provision for a thumbnail as such. You could have multiple cameras and multiple scenes, not counting different configurations of animated ob...

Cool, I didn’t know about this.

To those having problems building it under Linux, try this patch http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3118915.

The Python documentation for 2.5x starts here http://www.blender.org/documentation/blender_python_api_2_55_0/ . Operator descriptions start here http://www.blender.org/documentation/blender_python_api_2_55_0/bpy.ops.html —the ones you want would be somewhere under “Export”, “Export_scene” or “Export...

The question is, are they violating the GPL? Personally, I can’t see any evidence that they are. Note this from their “common questions”: Qns: I have more than 1 PC. Can I use it on other computers? Yes, the license allows you to use it on as many PC's as you like. Also from their “features” page: F...

What is the file format? is it the ASCII format documented here http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/info/maya/manu ... index.html?

Depending on the complexity, it should be possible to write a Python script to do the import. Do you have any samples?

The bug reporter is a bit obnoxious: you can’t even see what bugs have been reported unless you sign in with a registered account.

You’d have to run a script which uses the export operators.

Modelling Clouds—Volumetric vs Halo Materials

I’ve been trying to produce cloudy-looking objects using the new volumetric materials in Blender 2.5 x , and the problem I find is that the surface is still too sharply defined. Proper clouds should have a blurry, ill-defined surface boundary. I’ve tried various combinations of density versus scatte...

Under the Render context settings, you can choose the output file format. On my build (which uses FFmpeg), I see items under Movie Options for “AVI JPEG” and “AVI RAW”.

It is now on GitHub https://github.com/ldo/treadtiler . The script still has a couple of limitations: * The lines of selected vertices for joining cannot form loops. This is because I need to know where they begin and end, so I can match up the ends for joining. * The beginning and ending points on ...
