Re: i have a problem with background images

I wouldn't recommend starting to learn Blender from a random tutorial found in the internet. It may not be up to date with the latest Blender version. Check this and read the intro section. Read it all don't just jump a few sections. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual After this follow the tut...

I think he is talking about a cut-copy-paste interface, some drag and drop features, a floating file browser window and other things that are considered standard. Blender didn't have a global undo/redo feature until a few years recently. I wouldn't mind having having a gobal cut-copy-paste system ei...

Re: modeling in blnder 2.46

The most up to date learning source is the blender manual followed by the tutorials linked in each manual section. Just goggle blender manual. "ime mainly interested in nurb curves etc as i think its the best route for comic looking charecters please correct me if ime wrong" The best tool is the one...

I'm very interested in what this Apricot project will become. I use Blender to make game levels but i always wished to be able to use it as a complete game creation tool. I hope we get access to the game Blender files in the end and good documentation for all the improvements. regarding Collada supp...

The blender manual does mention what normal storage conventions are used: http://www.blender.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13210 Which is why i called it a possible bug (or a manual mistake), since the way they are stored in reality isn't very consistent with what the manual says or with itself. Why wou...

Possible bug with Blender normal baking

Blender is baking tangent space normals with the red channel inverted. I tried this with the Panda3D engine and had to fix the normal map texture by inverting the red channel. When using object space normals you may have to invert the blue channel also but since i don't use this i haven't tested it....

Clarification of the manual page about normal baking

This page here: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Bump_and_Normal_Maps Normal maps in Blender store a normal as follows: * Red maps from (0-255) to X (-1.0 - 1.0) * Green maps from (0-255) to Y (-1.0 - 1.0) * Blue maps from (0-255) to Z (0.0 - 1.0) Since normals all point towards a viewer, ne...

Re: GUI philosophy compariosn

For example, I just learned that there is no menu item for REDO and UNDO, but there are shortcuts for it. The only chance to know this feature, is to read the books and manuals. But this is no modern UI design IMHO. I think this is a good idea. Blender is multi-platform application and has it's own...

"I talked with one of the 3D guys again, and he said the program was okay, but it had a steeper learning curve as compared to other products they tried. Also, that in order to be productive after a few weeks of non usage (happens regular, it's a multidisciplinary team) they have to spend more time f...

"For example, when I start Cinema4D, 3DS or Maya, there are toolboxes, which allow to use a "Hair effect" on a polygon object. This is straightforward: You choose the emitter and then you choose the goal ("add hair effect" icon)." I never used Maya before. If i wanted to add hair to something i woul...

Small stuff http://www.blender.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13163 Also something useful for game editing, when we edit scenes using the technique of creating blocks that snap together. I could really use something to edit scenes and objects similar to what we do in hl2 and nwn2 game editors with *prefa...

List of annoying small stuff that never gets fixed

Here's a personal list of small Blender annoyances. I mostly use Blender for making game scenes so this is really annoying. + Limit of 20 characters or something for image names. + Limit of 10,000 to clip start/end in default camera. + Limit of 100 grid lines. Couldn't we simply drop or increase thi...

Almost all of this can be done easily with already existing functionality. The problem is this functionality is not very visible or it requires some setup first. For example creating a triangle is easy. One way is using uvwxyz method. Another is to add a plane; convert it to two tris using Ctrl-T in...
