Parenting is like making the parents local coordinates the global coordinates of the child. This means that when you move/rotate/scale a child it is moving in its own world with the parent at its center. If you move the parent the child just makes sure it is in the same location/orientation to the c...

Blender is in c, so verts are probably a struct or array or something. Because they are not really Python objects you can't assign data to them, the MVert object you use from Python ceases to exist when your script finishes. It is also difficult to store data for them in an object because their indi...

I'm afraid everything is going to be a challenge if you keep asking the developers for help (I don't think many are that good at art )

If you want help for art things visit Blenderartists.org

parent the camera to an empty that is tracking a target. That way the camera will go with the empty and copy its orientation, but you can then add changes to the camera too.

Check out object properties. These were originally for the game engine, but I think we have full access to them now.

I just wanted to bump this. I got bit again last night by this curve flipping bug while using a curve modifier to control some tentacles. Are there any plans to fix this? Does anyone know exactly why this is happening? I don't really understand how the curve object's local z axis is important to cur...

Good news! From what I saw it wasn't too terrible to write code for. I think you could do some pretty fun things with it too ;)

BeBraw: Cool idea, but I think that is a pixel or/xor/etc? I'm talking about a logical if/or/etc. to decide which nodes to evaluate. Like a control flow structure. For instance: if color.red >= .5: #or vector.x, or value follow this tree that adds bumps else: use this other material that is shinny A...

I just saw a comment by someone else somewhere about a new node and I thought I should add it to my list of features nobody comments on :D How about a logic node? An AND, OR, and NOT, maybe even an IF. You could use it with the math node to control color/texture/blending based on camera angle or nor...

Groups, layers, and UI

Hello, The upcoming Blender release has added a number of new features that have little or no UI built yet, and which I think would work very well together. It looks like things are already going in this direction, but I don't know if there are there any plans concerning groups/layers? Skip to the e...

offs ob broken?

Did anybody else notice that "offs ob" is broken in the current release? I needed to update an old animation yesterday, but after changing some things one part of my animation doesn't work right anymore! After poking around a little I found this helpful tooltip for the offs ob button -> "Not functio...

This post inspired me to do some research into volumetric rendering (which is needed to produce any of those effects). Lots of high-level overviews and scholarly papers available it seems. One interesting method is called 'splatting'. It is characterized by sequentially mapping a slice of an object ...
