Yeah, the new widget icons look very good! BTW objects in a 3d view set to 'shaded' look like fruit salad in this build. Does this happen for anyone else, or is it my fruity ati video card?

You should post a mini-tut on texture based particle emission at Elysiun. I tried to use it the other day but with no visible result.

Note: I visit Blender.org before Elysiun each morning, so if you've already posted there I will see it shortly

Hairy

I spent a few hours this weekend playing with the new hair features and it was as fun as it was frustrating. I grabbed an old model I had planned to use card-style hair on, and tried to get some decent hair/fur using particles. During the process I found a bunch of problems, errors, and inconsistenc...

Remember particle emiters must be on the same layer as their effectors. Also the face normal of the deflector matters i.e. particles will pass through the back side of a face.

Last time I tried this I couldn't get it working but: http://www.python.org/pypi/PyMedia/1.2.3.0 If you figure it out you could manipulate your video/audio in a number of useful ways. Probably including combining, compressing, adding audio tracts, etc. I'd love to see some code if you get it working.

Align view

I just found the align view tool the other day and have been using it quite a lot. One problem I've had though is that about half the time it aligns to the wrong side of the target. For instance if I select an edge loop and I want to tweak the verts I do shift-v>view top. This does align me to the p...

What you are describing is already possible using a texture set to stencil. To control it though you need to use a hand painted texture. The texture channels are like layers on your object and stencil cuts a hole in one layer using the grayscale value of the stencil texture. I think it would also po...

In response to the 'rosa color': with the recent builds my models have been changing colors alot. While doing some experiments with the new particle weighting my model would change color depending on the overall weight paint value, from 'rosa' to orange, green, and blue. Also on the model I working ...

Hair length

The new particle hair is great but I have a request. The particle life is an easy way to control hair length but it effects all particles equally. It would be useful to have particle life controlled by: A texture: you could paint on hair length with a lot of control. Vertex colors: Easy and quick wi...

How much are these guys getting paid anyway?

What about X3D or FBX? AFAIK both of these formats can handle what you want and more. The problem is Blender only recently got X3D export, and cannot import or export FBX. FBX is supposed to be supported by a large number of companies/softwares. I think it would be my choice for sharing data between...
