   Wow, that was fast!! Nice one, mate!! Does that mean that any Blender user can create Quicktime streaming MPEG-4 content, or do we have to buy the full content-creator version of Quicktime first? (sorry for the newbie question). Well done, tho' - Blender just gained acceptanc...

Bloody sarcasm

Incoming long post/blast! Stand clear, all.... and .dyn and .kin files would be incompatible, but that's okay since we could always just render 3D data to the obj file and port it into the .dyn file, then we could render out the .dyn file to .rgb files and overlay it ontop of the animation rendered ...

Hiya mate, Well, at the moment the Blender renderer can't do raytracing, which is a bit of a pain in the @$$, I agree. But there are some easy workarounds, so don't panic!! 1) POV-Ray. You mentioned Wine, so I'm assuming that you're on some flavour of Linux. POV-Ray is one of the best free raytracer...

Explanations

Phew, seems I've started off a small torrent of 'keep it' posts! Changing the format seems a bit premature, it would be a quite disruptive change, when the focus is better kept on stabilizing the foundation version. However I do think that splitting out the format reading/writing code into a ...

I think that Alltaken has hit the nail straight on the head, and those of you pretending that Blender doesn't need something like this are deeply mistaken, and it's about time you crawled out from under that rock you've been living under :) Just look at Openoffice. *NO ONE* took that seriously until...

It's all in the selection...

Erm...it's all to do with which order you select your objects in. I can't remember which way round it is, but one object you select becomes the 'cutter' and the other becomes the 'cuttee'. Try it out - select your first object and then your second and do your boolean operation on it. Now try selecti...

I never had any problem with blend not loading, and I worked with some big file now and again. Might just be me then... I've worked with some files > 10meg, and sometimes I'll go to load them and it'll just go 'Not a blend file' and return me to an empty scene. Not just big ones, though - it happen...

I think I see what you're getting at. Something that, for example, finds the object's central axis (eg by averaging the x and y positions of all vertices in an object and then varies the z value), and then 'looks outward' at the vertices surrounding the object centre and puts the UV positions accord...

Hiya guys. I know a fair bit about this tool, so I'll try explain. For those of you who don't know what it is, insert a cube to a scene. Then, left click and drag and you'll see a line form underneath your mouse. Try moving it in a straight line and then let go of the mouse button. Result? You just ...

Whilst we're all here, what does everyone think about the current Blender file spec? My personal point of view is that a memory dump isn't a particularly elegant way to organise this (/me dons his flame-retardant suit  ). I mean, one byte goes wrong and 90% of the time your scene won't load ag...

Hiya mate, Erm, well.... Basically the CVS is only open to be read at the moment (apart from a select few, and they're only human - they're not gonna recode Blender overnight ;) ). So, yeah, basically, you're not going to see a lot of changes to the Blender source code until CVS write access is open...
