Feature Request: Python API access to the "Threads"

I don't think that this would take verry long, but it would be realy nice if someone could add python control for the "Threads" button in the rendering context.

mere mortals? are you saying that I'm immortal? I've got a dual core, it just about cost a fortune, but it renders like mad. anyway, the other thing that provides people with more processors is parallel clusters, or if you need to set up a temperary render farm, all you have to do is use parallel kn...

rendering, we already have a "threads" render option to render in two threads, blender simply renders two scanlines at a time. but it would be nice if it could render 4 lines at a time, or 8, or 100.

Feature Request: More than two Threads.

I don't think it would take verry much time, we already have two threads going, I'm proposing that somone put a little box there so that you can select how many threads you use on a given render. if you have more than 2 cpu's, why not be able to use all of them?

I'm using them for clothing. At my desired resolution, it takes 1 hour per frame. I'm working on simplifying things, but it's a big isue.

what about softbodies? That's my real big headache. I'm getting tired of waiting 24 hours to see some results. do they take advantage of multiple processors/64bits?

blender with 64 bits

I have recently ordered a new Motherboard and AMD Athalon64 dual core processor(it's in the mail), and I am wondering how well blender is going to take advantage of 64 bits, and two processors. I do use cvs blender builds as a matter of habbit, so version isn't an issue. Where I'm espescially curiou...

press B twice and you will get a circle select, and you can just click and drag to select verts.

Bug Report: In and out of Edit mode

I'm using bf-blender built this morning from fresh cvs sources, and there's a little problem: if I select some verts, and go out of edit mode, when I go back into edit mode they either will be all deselected, or some of them will be deselected.

I thought about totaly wiping python, but as soon as you do that, other more important things start to break, like walkomatic. (correct me if i'm wrong) I beleive it calculates stuff at render time. The reason you have no small binary, is because you still need most of blender in order to render: Te...

I haden't thought about stripping out tools, that would make te build smaller and lighter. I may yet play with it. It's just C, and not C++ so I think I can find my way arround the source code a little better. I'll play with the ifdefs. You could probubly strip out a reasonable ammount: Boolian Opts...

but it's impossible to make a "small binary" blender is verry small as it is, and you can make a small binary by turning off the gameeingine. I don't think it would be all that much of a problem to remove the interface, but I don't have enough c to do it.

We should probubly think about this, not as what needs to be kept, but what can be removed. If you think about it, the only things that you will be able to remove are the game engine, which can already be removed, and the interface. Everything else: materials, textures, world, scene, action strips, ...

from the little bit of digging arround I've done with the blender source code, the render engine is a speperate cpp file, so you could take quite a lot of the old code, and build a command-line interface to it. It would be a little bit of a project, bute defanintly within the range of possability.

Security, it would make it possible for a renderfarm deamon to decrypt a file, and load it into blender without it ever getting saved on the hard drive.

It would also allow you to do some fancy things with shell scripting.
