*laugh* Joeri, you hit the nail on the head about one thing here. Blender is not a democracy and no matter what the suggestion/patch given the the "main" development team - if they don't like it (regardless of how much the users might), it doesn't go in. And you're pretty important as far as users g...

Blender never was commercial, that was the only rule Frank and I gave Ton for taking Blender out of NeoGeo.
Can I get a clarification on effects of this and the "proposed" BL license, please?

Heya broken,

I'm wondering why the idea of a "customizable GUI" is not being developed. Not starting an argument, but asking a serious question. I think the idea has merit and would like to know what is stopping it.

Thanks.

And given the fact that Ton has recently been able to multi-threead the renderer, a distinct possibility.

The problem I see for the development suggestion & estimates you gave is two-fold. First & foremost - you are assuming that the developers are familiar with the source code. I have been fiddling away at the code for about a month now & I still don't know all the in's & out's of Blender. Some of the ...

Yeah, an anistropic shader would definitely expand the possibilities of what could be accomplished using only the internal renderer. Everything from slimy skin to brushed metal becomes alot easier to create. The problem might be in exporting said shaders to Yafray (as it appears to be the "high qual...

I like the concept as you have explained it ideasman. However, there are three problems I can forsee. First, there is a data-size hit that some may not like as each face will have to have at least an extra char per vertex. I don't really think this is an issue, but Isee the whole "memory issue" crop...

Thanks Martin (theeth), that's saved me a little effort. Now is the request only for rendering or also in regards to the local viewport? I don't see this being a biggy to implement, and it would be good to cut my teeth on something simple that OTHERS want...

Works for me :) Wasn't a problem for me as I've been using it for a while. Simply a "new user" thing :)

Agreed with joeri here - it is an "edge property". Now I'll have to look in the code to see if there is actually a place to store this information (after all, if they're only storing vertex & face info - it's not going to be possible).

So if we showed different themes on the same page, the *users* should expect them to be all visible at once? Come on... Sorry theeth - this is a strawman's argument. We're all talking about the "primary screenshot" on the "main page" for Blender (to the average web-browser). Someone has already sta...

Well, the target user group is (according to the Blender Foundation's statutes) is "educational institutes, companies, & individual artists" (slightly paraphrased for grammar). Now, I can give them the "individual artists" thing as if an artist wants to use something - they will regardless of the in...

I think calling them "small minded" is a bit elitist... Think about it, what other applications show as the FIRST SCREENSHOT a potential user would see? None bar the actual linux window managers to my knowledge. To call a person "small minded" for expecting what they were shown is (in my not-so-humb...

Yup, that's what I hear too. I don't bother using my tablet with Blender for similar reasons, but also because there really isn't much use for it. ZBrush, GIMP, etc are all tools that benefit from having (a) easier free form drawing, and (b) pressure sensitivity. With the exception of the upcoming p...
