External renderer support is already going to be very easy... try the windows/linux version tuhopuu blender... they've got a drop down to select which renderer to use... Blender/Blender Unified/3Delight/Others...... then you just hit F12 or the Render button as you normally would. Its coming along. Soon its all just a matter of button clicks.

why not let loose mini releases, a la wings?

2.26a/2.261, 2.26b/2.262, etc.

i love all the little updates Bjorn continuously
tags into his brainchid. i think wings users'
would agree it's not as confusing as suggested
to have handfulls of new releases.

plus, it has been a month since 2.26 was released.
and as time passes with no new toys, i know for me
anyway, it's easy to lose interest.

blah.

A lot of effort goes into the release-making process - I fear if there were to be multiple releases each month, the developers would be so caught up in administration and managing the releases, that they'd have no time to actually work on the code, and soon get frustrated.

Perhaps a solution could be to make semi-regular builds from tuhopuu, so people can test out the latest experimental features. I'd be happy to volunteer compiling a Windows tuhopuu build every week or two.

a raytracer! cmon! why rely on external renderers when its a pain the ass and not as efficient??

i really need to know, is implementing one in the works? ive heard its not even an option, but just rumors of course =) and dont tell me to learn and code it myself, its not worth it when it would be easier just to learn a raytracing program like lightwave, and switch over, which im currently doing =P

ton! youve given the baby legs, now teach it to walk!
if u let it crawl for too long its eventually gonna get crushed....
who wants to see a baby get crushed? aside from the minority of mutilation fetish freaks out there, no one :)
Oh what the hell.. Give a raytracer too, but make it an option don't replace the renderer with that.. It would be a mistake..

Anyhow..

I would contribute to the OSX front.
