Suzanne Info

Post by tgentry78 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:43 pm

I stumbled upon a picture of Suzanne, the monkey face included with Blender. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this model, like when it was first included with Blender? I have a similar looking character that I did in 2001.

Mine: http://www.travisgentry.com/assets/img_ ... k_img3.jpg

They share nearly the same facial proportions. I'm not claiming anyone ripped me off, I was just interested.

I might remember wrong but I think it was integrated in version 2.25 for the first time as a mascot. That must have been 2002. But that is not really sure - don't have any running binaries from that time. I can't tell who made it though.

btw.: Your monkey is really cool! :)

Yeah I think it was 2.25 too,.. the final version published by NaN Technologies. It was made by Willem-Paul van Overbruggen, a NaN employee who worked in the content team.

The original wikipedia article was removed but there is a copy of it.

Hi tgentry78,
Your monkey looks very much like Mojo Jojo.

O wait, maybe that's why it looks like suzanne.

I would say mine looks much more like the Suzanne design than the Mojo design, but I see the similarities. Suzanne has the same small mouth in the same place as mine, though she also has the same shaped ears as Mojo, and they all have the same basic head shape. Obviously monkeys aren't anything new when it comes to drawing and 3D modeling. This was the first character I ever made in 3D. I probably wouldn't do a monkey anymore, simply because now I know it's so common.
