Sprite slices

Post by jondansie »

There is an option in Lightwave to render using sprite slices of voxel textures (the Lightwave term is 'Hypervoxel') that is useful for speed - especially in large renders.

Would it not be easier to write a particle sprite voxel plugin than a full voxel renderer? Essentially, as I understand it, each particle is given one or more quads that may or may not orient to the camera eye vector and the quad is drawn with transparency and texture from a 'slice' of the particle voxel.
