Blender and Blitz

Post by Labyrnth »

Does Blender support 3ds or B3D output?
Im new to this program, I have looked at it before , But was overwhelmed by the site of it on my first run.

Im doing game programming in blitz but want to do 3d.

Im ready to try and give it another go, But i need to know where to look for beginner tutorials, so i can read and follow along learning to use Blend.

Please give me some links to help me out. Blender seems to be getting better and better every time i come back to look at it. I just dont know where to start is all.

Thank you to anyone who reply in advance.

==================================
.:Well the site has changed since my last visit:.

I have found what i was looking for poeple, sorry for the spam..
Now how do i turn this thing on [sarcasm] :).

A blitz3d exporter would be great.

Ok i sat my butt down and am now learning to use Blender.

I have a book called "Blender Game Kit"
It is a older blender version, i also have the new one. They are different because the book says to use this hotkey and the new one no longer has the hotkey.

shift+F5 to bring up for loading a image.
But i did ok in finding it in the new one.

Now, I managed to learn load a image and actually draw on it a bit.
This was cool and getting excited about it :).

Then the book led me to switching to the front view, omg i got lost right afterwards, selecting all vertices's and then scaling went well.
Then i got lost,... i will have to start over and read a little more slower and understand what i need to do.

But the good thing is i learned a few of the hotkeys and drew the outline fairly quick.
For my second attempt at trying to learn blender i have gotten 100% farther then before...

Someone throw me a cookie !

Okay,... you are on the road.
There are a few things to keep in mind:

1. This is a developers forum, sharing experiences about using blender is better done at a user forum like blenderartists.org. They can also give you tons of help.
2. You need to decide if you are going to use blender as an assets builder and then create your game in blender or just as an assets builder and create the game logic within an other author package.
Because the Blender game engine is not seriously being developed (I hope I'm not kicking hard working people now) except for bullit.
There are serious attempts on porting to Crystal Space. Google Crystal Space and CEL to see more on that. Or you might consider writing an .obj import in blitz3d.

Sounds cool.
I've had an evaluation copy on my machine for some time, but did not find the time to dive into it. I have been using the http://www.revolution3d.net/ engine to port my froggy game with limit success. Although it was fairly simple to export 3d objects to my own format that I understood for import.
I was using the quake trick: just save everything as a separate file. :D
The animation system is a bit more tricky. I'm not sure there are good exporters for that, you could ask at blenderartists.org http://blenderartists.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12 or here http://www.blender.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=13

I dont think certain programmer browse these forums..So I'll be as brave as to mention here ;)

yet pending on certain stuff he's programming now, and also as he would need some help with matrices coding or something (I'm an artist) , but I already had access to certain svn preview versions of a full b3d plugin for blender. there are a lot of ppl who would love this, yet very few aware of it.

It seems to be working well both level lightmap export besides character animation export. but the guy could use some help, as also is doing certain other tons of things... I hope I'm not talking too much (as usual) ...

Is at irrlicht ( http://irrlicht.sf.net ) forum comunity, by the nick of Luke.
If he gets angry, I didnt tell you ;)
