Awsome new feature Idea....

Post by TEKOBYTE » Sat Apr 26, 2003 8:24 pm

Hi,

I was just going through a list of
Truespace plugins, and I saw one
that let you input motion via a joy-
stick. Wouldn't that be an awsome
feature in Blender?

I mean, you could get very fluid, and
liflike animations, with incredible ease.

Anyway, I just thought I'd pass that on...

Then we could get Wacom tablet input..

Yeah it would be nice.. However if the jostick is like the old
Atari joysticks which used four buttons to determine left, right,
up, down, and combinations (for North East, South East, etc..)
it would be tough to produce exact angles of movements as
well as speeds of movement (you have only one speed of movement
for a particular direction).

The GRaphire2 Wacom tablets allow for pressure sensitivity, I've
been using them for texturing. You can see an example of what can
be done with a wacom tablet in my video:

Now imagine using that as a source of movement (where you can
control speed and direction of movement in real time).. There are
versions of these tablets that are fairly inexpensive, and the movement is as natural as your hands movements because it is a direct mapping..

Hi Thorax,

Actually, I know all about Wacom
tablets. I have the graphire2.
(the red one, to be exact) :)

Tablet support with pressure
sensitivity would be even better.
I can just imagine...

Thanks for the reply...

This feature is already in Blender with mouse:

1) Put your mouse over a IPO window
2) Select one or two channels (Rot, Loc...)
3) Press CTRL+R and select "Play Anim" (the anim is running now)
4) Press CTRL to record.
5) Move the mouse.
6) Press SpaceBar to finish.

I like very much this feature. ;)

Bug in it

Great feature, but it doesn't work when
using the Map Old to Map New feature.. It stores the
frames absolutely..

For instance if I am showing an animation at half rate (map old 10
to map new 100), it will store the frames at frame 50 in the IPO window
when according to the new remapping the frames actually began occuring at frame 5 in increments of .10 .. This means this trick can't be used for sub-frames (which can be observed in motion blur)..
