OS: Windows Vista 64 Pro
CPU: Intel Q9550 (Core2 Quad, 2.83GHz)
GPU: nVidia GTX280, 1GB
RAM: 8GB
Chipset: nVidia (i790 if I remeber right)
Blender: 2.48a (32 and 64)
I am using 32 bit blender and 64 bit blender. Both work fine, but I couldn't make the 64 bit blender recognize a pre installed python, and I cannot use external python libs with 64 bit blender. I guess the reason is that there is no 64 bit python distribution available yet and I didn't bother to recompile python on my own.

Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
CPU: Intel Core Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz
RAM: 4.0 GB (can't see how to find out what type of ram.)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
Driver version: 7.15.11.7813
Driver Date: 17/09/2008
Blender versions "tested": 2.46, 2.49RC1
Inexperienced user, have not tested thoroughly. Noticeable effects:
If Aero Window manager is active, but not in "high contrast mode" the Windows magnifier will only display black for the blender window, the rest of the desktop being magnified correctly. In "high contrast mode" (See accessibility options, and for those testing you can toggle with with <alt-left_shift-print_screen> but after leaving high contrast mode the icons get moved about on your disktiop, the backgound image will not be displayed (flat colour instead) and some applications (Opera? Firefox?) will get confused about which mode they are in, i.e. this doesn't turn itself off entirely correctly in my experience), then the blender window is magnified correctly.

Operating System : Ubuntustudio 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)
Desktop : Gnome 2.26.1 - w/o composite
CPU : Intel Core Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz
Graphic Card : Nvidia GeForce 6200 GS 512MB AGP
Driver : NVIDIA 180.44 Xorg Driver
Blender works fine, except some flickering in the user interface, especially on recently used parts (i.e. : Sculpting object : If I put my cursor on the "Draw" button to change my sculpt mode, when back on the model, the button and those around start flickering, I just have to put my cursor on it to make it stop.) since Blender version 2.44 (I didn't try with previous versions).
About performances : Blender gets slow when approaching 200.000 faces.

My computer has 4 gig ram and a 400 500 gig hard drive duel core 1.6 ghz processer. I think it should be allot faster than what i am doing. when i go to try to vertex paint. do i need to reinstall blender. every thing is up to date on blender Python ect.
