Wood Texture Coordinates

The wood texture is based on a sine function, however because of this it repeats itself pi (or a multiple of pi) times in every direction, instead of 1.0 times every direction. Is it possible to code the texture to multiply the input coordinates by pi? Or does it have an advantage I'm not seeing?

For the moment, I've just scaled the texture input by a factor of pi manually. I was just wondering if this was annoying anyone else.
