You probably have to use Blender 2.23 with
Python 2.0 + installed.. I am using this configuration to
use the Wings object converter.

The current versions of blender don't have complete Python API's.
Although that may have changed in the last couple of months without
me knowing about it, which is typical of the blender crowd.

It would be neat to have all the blender contributors to post somewhere
links to their contributions along with documentation and other
notes, possible related technologies, so that it would be easy to find.
Kinda like how Perl users find modules using CPAN.

I've test it under win and linux, using Blender 2.27 official release
No full python installation required.

This script use only a stable features. This should be work with
the new API without problems, or with minor changement.

When you save a tga image, in some advanced software like
Gimp 1.2.4 you can choose the origin of coordinates of image. This simple
beta version of displacement work only with images tga
with origin from bottom left. In the next version we remove this
limitation.

This isn't Blender limitation. It's my script that don't read the tga with alpha channel.

I use Gimp 1.2.4

Only tga, non RLE, with origin bottm left...
it's only a beta1... :)

I've add some tga for test, in download section

Yeah thaks T , but 2.23 is Pub Beta, as I tried.

Sigh OSX blender is still messed up. I am missing out on so much work I could have done if python only work truely.

I do have a full install of python.

Oh yeah the script works and compleates with the given images bUT.... nothing happens after that. No displacement. So maybe it is in the redraw step? I have no clue...

Please see if their is anyway at all that you can fix it for OSX. If you can.

I do know the 2.23 does some scripts, but alot it still does not do.

The script don't work under 2.23.
TO work in 2.23, I must use the getRaw() and putRaw()
intead getData() and update().

This can give some strange problems, and I must test it.
I try to fix the problem in the next release.

What on earth is that supposed to mean? You want every developer to personally email you every time there's something new? Or perhaps send a messenger around to your house in a tuxedo?

News about the great work that has been done on the Python API has been posted to the blender.org front page in these articles:
First Pre-release of Blender 2.28
Python Status Report

Of course there's also an abundance of information in the python section of this very forum, or for more in-depth discussions, on the bf-python mailing list. If you're having a difficult time figuring this sort of information out, I suggest you try a little harder. It's quite clear to everyone else.

These sorts of digs like "which is typical of the blender crowd" are unnecessary, uncalled for, unjustified and insulting to the volunteers. A lot of effort is made to report on the latest developments. If you think it can be done better, then perhaps you should volunteer your own time to help out constructively rather than constantly whining, complaining and trying to tell other people what to do.

Thanks Manuel! I am looking forward to your next upgrade and the future additions of your tool to the Blender Material system for rendered displacements and displacement of subdivision surfaces. I have already tested it on my current test files and it rocks! I am thinking about using it for the building moulding design details and adding aging and buckling effects to streets etc. Displacement is really needed among other things in Blender. With the Blender 2.28 release we will see alot more added features I'm sure.
