Blender link at Apple.com needs submission from developer

Post by arangel »

Dear friends at Blender.org,
I was browsing the Apple site for OS X 3D apps and checked that Blender isn´t listed. All it takes is a submission from a developer....
The list of apps: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/i ... ndex1.html
The submission guidelines page: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/submit/

From the Submission Guidelines:
...
Software regularly featured on Mac OS X Downloads best exhibits the following characteristics:
....
Effectively and elegantly utilizes the aqua interface.
...
In addition, the following guidelines must be met:
... and a Mac OS X specific supporting website.

"... BEST exhibits the following characteristics"

I don´t think these guideline are set in stone, as many software titles in the list don´t have a specific site for OS X.
Blender has many resources on-line and they apply to all versions of the software.
Blender is a very odd program, in a sense, as it is professional and "free" at the same time. So I think it´s VERY useful to Mac OS X users to have the knowledge of the download link at the Apple list. Even if it doesn´t adhere to the Aqua interface.

I remember when the OS X Blender was first released, Apple actually had a big full-page (with graphics) write-up about it. Strange that it wasn't added to the software list then.

I've applied the form at apple.com

Yes, apple is still interested in doing more with Blender at their sites.
Just a matter of having a lot of spare time and do relationshop management with them... :-)

They listed "freeware" as a liscence. Now, I'm sure some people would be complaining in a very emotional way because of that mistake, so before they do, can someone tell them to correct it?

unfortunately they seem to write freeware for all open source apps

even though this irks me, it may be better to draw people to download and use the software rather than using the term open source or GPL as not everyone may be familar with it.

In that case couldn't they put: freeware/GPL, freeware/open source, Open Source "Freeware", Open Source "Free", or someting like this.

But atleast they have this little snipet in the About Blender:
The software is being distributed under the GPL license, with sources available at www.blender.org as well
