Hi everyone. I am pretty new to blender, started September this year. I have just been introduced to cycles, and I am using it right now. My question is, I want to make a layer of flat snow, with areas (roads) that are shoveled. I have no idea how to do it. The scene is a cartoon-ish scene.
Something like this:

I have tried UV mapping, but I don't really know what it is and how to do it, nor am I willing to use it unless that's the only way to do it. I also am not going to subdivide it hundreds of times, because I'm working with a big screen, and that will never render.
Also, one short question. I am on a mac, and I don't know how to "render using my GPU". I don't know what that is, or if a mac has it.
Thanks everyone! I appreciate any help!
