Importing COLLADA Issue

Post by aZen » Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:32 pm

We're trying to export COLLADA files from our own 3D program in such a way that they're compatible with Blender.

The first problem that we encountered is that blender does not export textures into COLLADA (so we can not just re-create the output file format). That would not be a big problem, but the import seems to be also buggy.

We tried to import a basic COLLADA file from the official website, but the texture is not linked to the model (even though the file is in the UV file list inside of blender and the UV mapping is also correctly loaded). It seems like Blender is "forgetting" to link the file to the UV map when loading the COLLADA file.

The file we tried to load is:
https://collada.org/owl/browse.php?sess ... rtname=ASC

Is this a known issue or are we doing something wrong?

Thank you for your help!

We resolved this issue. Blenders import is working fine. Our mistake was that we thought the dice was using UV textures directly, but it used material texture (which you can only see when rendering).

Followup:

To everyone having UV map export problem with COLLADA. There is an option when in the file chooser menu for COLLADA export "Include UV Textures". After ticking that everything exports just fine.
