Blender Logo?

Post by mchs3d »

Useless question, but where did the little yellow guy come from? I mean, it can't be the mascot because that's Suzanne's job. What exactly is it...? :?

It's a redesign of a logo Ton made for blender 1.0.

The first logo was to arty for a company as Not a Number and so a english designer was hired to make a new one. Keywords to the design where: hand and eye, tribe & community. It was a big battle to get it done. The font was settled pretty fast but the icon had many sessions.
Ton and I made our own designs to confince the designer his ones needed a lot more spunk to get approved.
Ton made some last moment changes (gave it a bigger belly) before going life with the website.

It's a pretty tough logo to deal with. Later we found out it's pretty much useless without it's white jacket. And officialy the ring between the blue dot and the orange eyehand should be white.

If there is any interest I can post some old logo's and some design phase examples.

Never thought that there was so much history behind a simple logo. If you could, please post some of the old logos! :D

I think it was wierdhat's derived mascot, blendo, that you are talking about.. The blender logo was based on the original blender eye fron the neogeo days.

don't know if he means "Yellow guy" was the Blendo...and I wonder if it was Weirdhat that made it...the character animation site that he has or had...was his creation...but I think it was Lyubomir that made the character "Blendo" and not Weirdhat...correct me if I am wrong...

edit:

yes I was right :)

Well done! But you say Traces was started in 1997, before Blender and before the Playstation. I thought Blender and the playstation were from around 1995, and that Traces was from even earlier, maybe 94?

Hmmm good point. I need to get the dates correct. I mistyped there. Traces was even from before 1992. the released code copyright is from 1997.

Yeah I was beginning to wonder myself..

Because one of the early popular games for PS was Mortal Kombat. That
was at least 1996. I recall that Ton was doing some stuff with Amiga's in the late 80s, some tests?
